Scratch art is super simple and fun way for kids to get creative, and gives great results. There’s not much mess either, and kids love the surprise element of scratching away the black to reveal the colours.
We had a lot of fun making these outer space themed scratch art decorations earlier this week.
To make these scratch art decorations, we used ready made shapes from Baker Ross (this set). You can also make your own scratch art papers, but this is a lot more convenient and the ready made sets from Baker Ross are very reasonably priced (2.99 for a set of 12, or 8.28 for a set of 36)
They have a huge selection of scratch art products, including magnets, masks and bracelets to make as well as various themed kits so check them all out here.
With the solar system themed pack, you get 6 different shape designs and the sticks to use to scratch off the colour. This activity was well suited to all 3 of my kids (ages 4, 5 and 7) and I couldn’t resist having a go myself too – scratch art is fun!
For children younger than mine, the scratch art would still be great too since they get such bright colourful results from scratching with the stick – it makes mark making exciting and motivating! My kids all loved to discover the different colours under neath the black, and experiment with making patterns using the colour.
Here are some of the ways to decorate the solar system scratch art.

Making solar system scratch art would be a fun activity for a space themed birthday party, or even a neat idea to put into the party bags (one scratch art shape and one stick to complete at home)
