What is Veterans Day?

The Veteran’s Day holiday, also known in some parts of the world as Armistice Day or Remembrance Day, or colloquially as Poppy Day, is celebrated every year on November 11th. It marks the anniversary of the end of World War I and honors all men and women who have dedicated service to their country in the armed forces.

In the United States, Veterans Day is not the same as Independence Day or Memorial Day. It’s a time to thank living military veterans for their service and sacrifice. Many schools hold assemblies, sing patriotic songs, or invite a guest speaker who has served to share their experiences.
