Materials

  • Empty tin can (clean and label removed)

  • White star-shaped stickers or cutouts
  • Red, white, and blue paper strips (crepe paper or tissue paper strips)
  • Skewers or sticks
  • Double-sided tape or glue
  • Scissors

Instructions

  1. Gather Your Materials: Start by gathering all the materials you need. Make sure the tin can is clean and dry. You will need red, white, and blue tape, and white star stickers or cutouts.
  2. Begin Wrapping the Tin Can: Begin by wrapping a strip of red tape around the bottom of the tin can. Ensure it's smooth and even.
  3. Add More Strips of Tape: Continue wrapping the can with alternating red and white tape strips. Make sure to press down firmly to avoid any air bubbles.
  4. Finish with Blue Tape: Once you've wrapped the red and white stripes, add a wider strip of blue tape around the top of the can. This will create a patriotic pattern resembling the American flag.
  5. Decorate with Stars: Apply the white star stickers or glue the star cutouts onto the blue section of the can. Arrange them to mimic the stars on the American flag.
  6. Once the American flag can is completed you are ready to move onto the 2nd half of the craft
  7. Create Firework Toppers: Cut strips of red, white, and blue paper. Curl the ends with scissors to create a firework effect. These will be used to create the firework effect. Make sure the strips are long enough to create a nice visual impact.
  8. Attach Double-Sided Tape: Take a strip of your crepe paper and attach a piece of double-sided tape along one edge. This will make it easy to wrap around the skewer.
  9. Wrap the Crepe Paper Around the Skewer: Start wrapping the crepe paper around the top of the skewer. Make sure to wrap it tightly and secure it in place. Repeat this step with white and blue crepe paper strips as well.
  10. Curl the Ends: Once the crepe paper is wrapped around the skewer, use scissors to cut thin strips along the edge to create a fringe effect. Curl the fringes slightly to give it a firework-like appearance.
  11. Create More Firework Toppers: Repeat the previous steps to create more firework toppers in red, white, and blue. This will ensure your centerpiece looks full and vibrant.
  12. Assemble Your Centerpiece: Once everything is dry and ready, place the skewers with the curled paper strips into the tin can to create a fun and festive firework display. Arrange them to your liking for the best visual effect.
  13. Final Touches: Adjust the firework toppers to ensure they are evenly distributed and standing upright. You can add more stars or glitter if desired to give an extra sparkle.
