How to Play the Types of Family Matching Game

To play the game, start by printing the pages and cutting out all of the cards. Laminating them can be helpful if you plan to reuse the activity or use it with a group of children. Mix all the cards together and lay them face down on a table or floor.

Children take turns flipping over one description card and one illustration card. If the family description matches the picture, they keep the pair. If not, both cards are turned back over and the next player takes a turn. The game continues until all matches are found, and the child with the most pairs at the end wins.

You can also slow the game down and turn it into a discussion activity by reading the description aloud, talking about the family type, and asking children if it reminds them of families they know.
