If you’re looking for a fun and easy painting idea to brighten up your day, this leopard print heart design is perfect! I did this mini painting session with my 8-year-old daughter, and we had so much fun using the Ohuhu Acrylic Paint Markers with brush tips.

These markers are usually something we use in our coloring books because they have such excellent coverage and vibrant colors, and are great for adding detail on top of alcohol markers, but this time, we decided to try them out on mini canvases — they’re just so cute!

This activity is great for all ages, from kids to adults, and is a simple way to make a colorful, eye-catching artwork.

Supplies You’ll Need for your Leopard Print Painting

For this project, we used the Ohuhu Acrylic Paint Markers (we used the brush tip set, which works amazingly well), a mini canvas (you can get these in multi-packs from art stores or online), a pencil for sketching your design, and a little easel if you want to display your finished artwork.

The markers are waterproof, non-toxic, and super easy to layer, which makes them great for projects like this. It is such an easy way to use acrylic paints without any mess and what I love about these ohuhu acrylic brush markers is that there is no shaking, unlike the traditional type of acrylic paint markers –  just open the pen and it’s ready to go with a convenient brush tip.

How to Paint Leopard Print

This fun mini canvas project uses acrylic paint markers to create a rainbow leopard print heart that pops with color! It’s a simple and playful activity perfect for kids and adults alike, turning a basic shape into a bold design.

Materials

  • Mini Canvas
  • Pencil
  • Acrylic paint markers

Instructions

  1. Sketch Your Heart Shape
Start by lightly drawing a heart shape on your mini canvas using a pencil. Keep it simple — no need to worry about perfection!
  2. Fill the Heart with a Base Color
Pick a neutral or nude shade and color in the heart shape. We chose a soft nude tone that really lets the bright leopard spots pop later.
  3. Color the Background
Now fill in the entire canvas background around the heart. We went with a bright contrasting blue, but you can pick any color you like to make the heart stand out.
  4. Outline the Heart in Black
Once the base color is dry (the acrylic markers dry fairly quickly), use the black marker to carefully outline the heart shape. This gives it a crisp, bold edge.
  5. Add Random Color Blobs
Inside the heart, start adding irregular, organic-shaped blobs in various colors — we went for a rainbow mix! Think of natural leopard spots, but with a fun, colorful twist.
  6. Add the Leopard Outline Details
Once your blobs have dried, take the black marker again and add two short black lines to the edges of each blob. For some, you can add lines above and below; for others, go for left and right. If a spot touches the edge of the heart, you might only need one line. This little detail is what creates the signature leopard print effect. Keep going until all blobs are completed
  7. Let It Dry and Display
Once everything is fully dry, pop your mini canvas on a little easel and enjoy your artwork! It makes a lovely decoration for a shelf or desk.

This project was such a fun bonding time with my daughter, and it’s easy to customize with your own color choices or shapes. The pattern is one I learned for coloring with alcohol markers, but it translates beautifully to canvas painting. You can definitely use this same technique on paper, in sketchbooks, or in your adult coloring books using either alcohol markers or acrylic markers. It’s a simple and relaxing way to create a trendy, bold pattern.

Animal prints are some of the most popular acrylic painting ideas out there, but you don’t have to stop there! You can experiment by combining this simple acrylic painting idea with geometric shapes like triangles, circles, or squares to create your own funky patterns. Mixing organic shapes like leopard spots with sharp geometric elements gives your canvas a cool, modern vibe — perfect for anyone wanting to push their designs a little further.

We’d love to see your leopard print artwork! If you try this at home, share your creations and tag us — we’re always excited to see what you come up with.
