Halloween is one of the best times of the year to go all out with fun and crazy hair! Our girls absolutely love it – it’s such a simple way to get in the spooky spirit without needing a full costume.
Whether it’s for school, a Halloween party or outing like going to a Halloween light trail, or just for some laughs at home, these hairstyles are easy to create and guaranteed to get lots of compliments.

Here are three of our favourite easy Halloween crazy hair ideas that you can try at home.
One of the things I love about these styles is how easy they are to pull together with just a few basic supplies. Most of the time, we already have rubber bands, ribbons, bits of fabric, and a few craft supplies like googly eyes or pipe cleaners around the house. You don’t need to spend a fortune or be a hairstyling pro to create something fun and eye-catching for Halloween.
If you do have some hair and body glitter to hand, this really finishes off the look too. If not, you can pick this up pretty cheap on Amazon.
Crazy hair day has become one of my girls’ favourite parts of the Halloween season. They love having a reason to turn an ordinary school morning into something exciting and creative.
It’s a fun bonding activity too – we get to laugh, experiment with our daughter’s hair, and take lots of photos before they head out. Those memories make the effort worthwhile!
Another reason I love these wacky hair days is that they can really boost your child’s confidence. When they walk into the classroom or Halloween party with spider legs sticking out of their bun or little pumpkins perched on top of their head, they instantly become a talking point. It’s such a simple way to help them feel special, especially if they like to stand out.
These styles are also great because you can combine them with costumes if you want to go all out. For example, the pumpkin hair is adorable paired with a pumpkin costume, while the spider bun can add extra spookiness to a witch outfit. If you’re pressed for time or don’t want to buy a full costume, the hair itself can become the main feature of the look.
Halloween Ghost Hair
For the ghost hair, we used two small hair buns and wrapped them in white fabric to make them look like little ghosts.

Add a bit of ribbon or hair elastic to keep the fabric in place, then use a black marker or felt eyes to draw simple ghost faces. I would recommend to take the fabric and measure it on your child’s hair, make a note of the best position for the face then remove and draw it on a flat surface, and then complete the hair style.
Finish with a sprinkle of glitter if your child likes extra sparkle. This one is so quick to do and looks super cute and spooky at the same time!

Halloween Spider Hair
This one was such a hit! We styled the hair into a neat high bun and covered it with a black tulle ballet hair net to make the spider body.
Then we added googly eyes on the front and attached green pipe cleaners as legs, bending them to look crawly.

A little hair gel and glitter on the rest of the hair made the look even more fun. Kids will love showing this off and it’s sure to get loads of comments at a Halloween party!
Halloween Pumpkin Hair
For a cheerful pumpkin look, we made two buns again, wrapped them in orange fabric, and added a green fabric scrunchie to symbolise the pumpkin “stem.” We drew little jack-o’-lantern faces on each bun to finish the look.

I also added some rainbow thread to a couple of little braids at the bottom, to be like rainbow pumpkin vines.
This one is so bright and happy – perfect for kids who love pumpkins and want a less spooky hairstyle.

These Halloween crazy hair ideas are not only adorable but also really easy to create at home with a few simple supplies. If your kids wear these fun hairstyles to a Halloween party or even just for school spirit day, they’re guaranteed to get so many compliments and feel fantastic about their look.

More Crazy Hair Day Ideas
If your kids love crazy hair day as much as ours do, there are so many other wacky hair days you can try throughout the year. Think unicorn horns made from a cone of cardboard wrapped in hair, rainbow-coloured ponytails with washable spray, or even turning hair into an ice cream sundae with a plastic cherry on top. These creative hairstyles make school spirit days and themed parties so much more fun!
