Ingredients
- For the Sugar Cookies:
- 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 1/2 cups white sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- For the Vanilla Icing:
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 2–3 tablespoons milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Food coloring (optional, for decorating)
Instructions
- Sugar Cookies:
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and line baking sheets with parchment paper.
In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and baking powder.
In a large bowl, cream softened butter and sugar until fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract, then mix well.
Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients until fully combined.
Roll the dough out on a floured surface to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to make fun shapes.
Place cookies on the baking sheets, leaving space between them. Bake for 8–10 minutes or until the edges are lightly golden. Let the cookies cool completely. - Vanilla Icing:
Mix powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract in a small bowl until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk if needed. For colored icing, divide the icing into bowls and add food coloring. - Decorating:
Spread icing on the cooled cookies and add sprinkles or decorations while the icing is still wet. Let the icing harden before serving or storing the cookies.
