Be Drain Safe
“It may seem like toilets and drains can handle anything – but you shouldn’t throw away food, oils, wet wipes or anything other than pee, paper, and poo! Take this challenge and commit to disposing of them the right way – in the compost or the bin!”

Challenge: Avoid throwing food, oils, wet wipes, or anything other than pee, paper, and poo down the drain.
How it Helps: This practice helps prevent blockages in the plumbing system and protects our waterways from contamination. Instead, use compost or bins for disposal.
Catch the Rain!
“Re-purpose old cups and used jars as rain catcher’s! With your parent or guardian’s permission, place them in safe spots outside to catch droplets when it rains. Then, use this to water plants in your home!”

Challenge: Repurpose old cups and used jars to collect rainwater. Place them in safe spots to catch droplets when it rains.
How it Helps: Use the collected water to hydrate plants in your home, saving gallons of drinking water.
H-2-Know
“Do some research into water! Find out where our drinking water comes from, what problems it’s facing, and what you can do about it! You could even see if your parents can arrange a visit to a local water treatment plant.”

Challenge: Research where drinking water comes from, the problems it faces, and how you can help. Consider visiting a local water treatment plant.
How it Helps: Understanding water sources and issues raises awareness about water conservation and encourages proactive solutions.
Local Cleaning!
“Take some gloves and a refuse bag with you to school, and make a point pick up any litter you see on the way home and dispose of it properly afterwards. Always ask an adult to supervise, use gloves or picker tools and wash your hands thoroughly when done.”

Challenge: Use gloves and a refuse bag to pick up litter on your way home from school.
How it Helps: Keeping local areas clean prevents litter from entering storm drains and waterways, protecting aquatic environments.
Marine Defender
“June 1st is World Reef Day – so grab some pens and paper and design a poster to show how valuable reefs are to marine life – and encourage the end of single use plastics that end up in the sea.”

Challenge: Design a poster for World Reef Day to show the value of reefs and discourage single-use plastics.
How it Helps: Raising awareness through art helps educate others about the importance of marine life and reducing plastic pollution.
Stop the Drip
“Go around your home and check your taps and hoses to make sure they’re not dripping! If they are, let the adult at home know and see if you can help them stop the wasted water leaking!”

Challenge: Check taps and hoses at home to ensure they aren’t leaking.
How it Helps: Fixing leaks can save significant amounts of water, preventing wastage of this precious resource.
The Great Shower Race
“If you have a shower at home, set the clock and see if you can reduce your shower time to 5 minutes to save water. Top tip – if you shower with music on you should aim to be in and out before the third track starts.”

Challenge: Reduce your shower time to five minutes.
How it Helps: Shortening shower time conserves water, potentially saving gallons per day.
Waterway Wonders
“Visit your local waterway with your parent or carer – that could be a stream, river, or coastline – and clean up any litter you find there to stop it ending up in the water! Be careful and use gloves and bags. If there are no waterways near you, see if you can clean up litter in your local area so that it doesn’t end up in storm drains which connect to waterways!”

Challenge: Clean up a local waterway with your parent or carer.
How it Helps: Removing litter from rivers, streams, or coastlines protects aquatic habitats and prevents pollution.
