Looking for a fun and easy 4th of July craft to keep the kids busy this summer? This rocking rocket craft is just the thing! With its patriotic red, white, and blue colors, it’s perfect for celebrating Independence Day.
Kids will love making their own little rocket that actually rocks back and forth when they tap it. We have a bunch of these rocking crafts here at In The Playroom as it’s such a fun way to mix crafting with a bit of playful motion.

This activity is great for preschoolers and young elementary kids, but older kids will enjoy it too, especially if they want to add their own creative details or decorate the rocket even more.
Materials You’ll Need for your 4th July Rocket Craft
You only need a few basic craft supplies to make this rocking rocket, which makes it super easy to set up at home or in the classroom.
Grab some colored construction paper, a pair of scissors, and some glue – that’s it! If you want, you can add extra decorations like glitter, sequins, or stickers, but the main design looks great even kept simple and classic.

How to Make the Rocking Rocket Craft
This craft comes together quickly when you follow these simple steps. Once you’ve got all your pieces cut out, it’s just a matter of assembling them into shape and attaching the rocket to the rocking base.
Rocking Rocket 4th July Craft
Make a patriotic rocking rocket that wobbles and sways — a fun and easy 4th of July craft kids will love!
Materials
- Colored construction paper (red, white, blue, yellow, orange and black)
- Scissors
- Glue
- Free Printable Template
Instructions
- Cut the templates and assemble them as shown on the procedure photo.

- Take the middle piece of the rocket, trace onto red construction paper

- Add white paper stripes

- Add two layers of color for the flame, and white stars on the top of the rocket.

- Assemble the rocket with the oval shape in the middle, triangle shape on the right side, and the fire at the left side.
attach it all together 
- Cut a circle from a black paper, fold it into half
then attach the rocket on it. 
- Your finished craft will stand up using the black paper base, and can rock back and forth.

And that’s it, your rocking rocket is ready! The folded black circle works as a base, allowing the rocket to gently rock back and forth when you tap it. Kids will love testing out their finished rockets and making them sway like they’re about to blast off!
