Home Made Blender Ice Cream FAQ

Do I have to use frozen fruit or can I use regular fruit?

The fruit being frozen helps with the consistency of the ice cream, so if you have fruit that isn’t frozen, just freeze it beforehand and then use it.

Can I skip the banana?

If you don’t want to use banana, you will want to add some extra creamy liquid for thickness. So if you’re not including the banana in your blender ice cream then add some heavy cream, or use coconut milk.

Can I make this home made ice cream vegan friendly?

Yes. Coconut milk or almond milk are vegan choices that you can use for the milk. You do not have to use cow’s milk for your ice cream.

Do I need to use eggs to make ice cream?

No, for this super easy 3 ingredient blender ice cream we will not be needing to use eggs. It’s a lot simpler this way!

How long does home made ice cream keep?

You can keep it in the freezer for about a month – that’s assuming the kids don’t eat it all up before that!

How should I store it?

You can buy special tubs for freezing home made ice cream, or you could wash out and re-use an ice cream tub from store bought ice cream.

You want to make sure the lid is securely air tight, because air getting into the tub will be responsible for freezer burn and no-one wants that.

You can use your regular tupper wear if it is freezer safe and air tight.

Avoid glass tupper wear though as it is not best suited to ice cream.

Why won’t my ice cream freeze?

Try freezing the container before putting the ice-cream inside, and into the freezer. A bowl or tub that’s too warm could be the problem.

How should I serve home made ice cream?

However you like! This ice cream can be served in bowls or cones, and topped with extra chopped nuts or fresh fruits as a garnish.

Maybe the kids would like chocolate sauce, or strawberry sauce, or honey drizzled on top?

You can buy empty ice cream cones at the grocery store, or if you’re really serious about ice cream making you can even get a waffle cone maker for at home!

What other ice cream flavours can I make?

Mix and match and experiment with ingredients you have in the kitchen. Some ideas are…

Blender ice cream with nuts…

Note – If you’re going to blend the nuts right into the ice cream, you want to buy some pre-chopped nuts that are in smaller pieces unless you have a more powerful blender that can handle something like whole hazelnuts.

If you have a powerful blender you can chop your nuts before hand using the pulse setting, and then add them along with the rest of the ingredients while making the ice cream.

Nuts to try

  • Hazelnuts
  • Pistachio
  • Pecan
  • Almond
  • Walnuts
