Busy bags are simple play activities that you can put into small bags and pull out when you need something new and different to entertain your little one, whether at home or while out waiting, in the doctor’s, restaurants, or wherever else! We used our Bostik craft supplies this month to make a simple garden themed felt play scene busy bag.
To make this busy bag, you will need:
- Craft sticks (or clean lolly sticks)
- Garden animal craft pieces – we used butterflies, bee and ladybird. You can get these from craft shops, or if you’re not able to find something suitable even make your own
- Bostik glue dots
- Green felt
- Craft leaves and / or flower decorations
- Zip bag to store
The Bostik glue dots are great for this type of craft as they stick so well with minimal fuss. Not every type of glue will stick well to felt, but we had no problem with the glue dots.
To use them, you peel back one side and stick it to the item you want to stick down, and then remove the other side of the backing, and stick to the surface (ie the felt or the craft stick).
We first used the glue dots to make the garden creatures into little puppets with the craft sticks. This couldn’t be easier, and once the bits were stuck down we wrote the animals names on the craft stick too just to help the youngest familiarise with the words and give a little bit of extra reading practice while playing.
We then used the glue dots to stick the extra detail on to the felt to make a background garden play scene. You could also add blue felt for the sky, and make this as elaborate as you like.
The glue dots don’t take any time to dry, so it’s ready to play with straight away and when you’re done, you can easily store it away into the zip bag for another time.
