WILF Books Review & Giveaway

WILF Books are a new books subscription box, which carefully tailors it’s contents to your child. Their mission is to get the perfect books to each child, and as well as sending out suitable books they also offer to redistribute any unwanted books to other children to make sure every book goes to a home where it will be loved and read.

I was interested in trying out the boxes, so WILF books sent us across a couple of boxes – one for my eldest Z who is 8 and half years old, and one for my younger two boys T and R who are 5 and half, and almost seven. They can also send picture books for younger children, so the boxes are suitable for any age as they put them together specially for your child. You can even let them know your child’s interests and give them specific ideas to make sure that they have all the info they need to pick the perfect books!

The WILF Books Boxes

Each box contains a minimum of three books, and some boxes will contain more books. These are the books we got in our boxes. I was really happy with the selections in both of them.

This is Z’s box, including..

  • The classic George’s Marvellous Medicine from Roald Dahl
  • The Island of Adventure – an Enid Blyton book which we hadn’t come across before, although Z has quite a few Enid Blyton series and always enjoys her books
  • Atticus Claw Learns to Draw – from a series we hadn’t come across before but it looks great, and definitely something Z will enjoy reading

All of the books are well suited for his age and interests. I had put that Z mainly enjoys adventurous books, and he will enjoy all of these.

If you receive a book that you already have, you can send it back in the free post envelope and WILF books will replace it in your next box at no extra cost.

This is T and R’s box, including some slightly easier books which are suited for their ages.

  • My Funny Family by Chris Higgins. This is the first in a series, which we hadn’t come across before. It’s a chapter book suitable for younger children to read as it has short chapters and still has plenty of illustrations included – so perfect for 5 and 6 year olds.
  • Adventures of the Little Wooden Horse by Ursula Moray Williams – This is a lovely hardback book, which is really nice, and the stories inside are classics. I’m sure I read this as a child too! It’s lovely to read a chapter each night as bedtime stories.
  • Minikid by Michael Morpurgo – This is another easy reader chapter book, from the “Little Gems” range which I hadn’t heard of but had a look at after discovering them in the WILF box as I’m always interested in finding suitable books for my younger boys to manage reading by themselves, outside of the school reading schemes.

I was really happy with T and R’s box that it included all chapter books, as they are always asking for new chapter books and are keen to move on them at their ages, but some chapter books can be tricky for them to read on their own so the selections here are really good.

How does WILF Books work?

WILF Books is a subscription box service, but you’re not tied in for a specific period of time and can come and go as you please, which gives your flexibility. You’re able to pause at any time on the website, and you can give your comments each month to help them tailor the right books for your child.

WILF books also encourage sharing, so if you have unwanted books that you want to clear out and pass to someone who will enjoy them more, then you can send them back in the free post envelope and they will distribute them to someone else. This is totally optional though, and if you want to keep all of your books then you can, with no obligation to send anything in.

    • Hey Jo. Thanks for the kind words! We totally agree. It’s actually proven that where children read according to their passions and interests, they are more likely to develop a passion for learning and reading – a core objective of ours! 🙂

  3. This sounds absolutely great. My 8 year is really into reading at the moment and his teacher has advised more complexed books. He has a big collection of Roald Dahl books, the Famous 5 and for Christmas I got him the 1st Harry Potter book and also the new David wialliams book. I’m so happy that he loves to read
