Global Parents Day is just around the corner on the 1st June. To mark the occasion, Serenata Flowers have offered a hamper for one lucky In The Playroom reader to win.
As any parent knows, raising children is not an easy job. You’re on call to your children 24 hours a day in case of illness or emergencies, and whatever you’re doing you’ll usually have a few worries in the back of your mind, to make sure that the kids are okay!
Once you become a parent yourself, it’s only then that you’ll really understand and appreciate the sacrifices and hard work that your own parents experienced when you were young yourself. Global Parents Day is a great opportunity to take the time to thank them, maybe with a gift.

Where to start!, I am very lucky to have the parents I have they never stop helping me & supporting me no matter what happens
I appreciate my parents for helping me get through some very difficult times in my life. They have always stood by me no matter what.
I count myself very lucky sadly my father passed away this year in jan 2016 whch was a huge blow plenty great memories but miss him so much , my mother is still here and in good health , great parents in every way
My parents didn’t have what I would class as normal childhoods but they managed to overcome that and gave us a brilliant upbringing with no role models to base it on. They are amazing and I’m so thankful for the sacrifices they made.
Sadly both my parents have passed away, my Dad 21 years ago and my Mum was only last year. I do hold some amazing memories for them both. I was very lucky and had fantastic parents 🙂
My mum and I had such adventures when I was a kid. It was just her and I and we didn’t have much, but my childhood was precious!
My mum is my carer and shes stayed by my side fighting battles that i was to weak to fight. My dads the more practical one but has always been there for me, even if its just to tidy the garden. Love them so much x
My parents are no longer with us, but I have many happy memories.
I have great memories of my mum. She taught me to enjoy life whatever the weather. None of this “we can’t go out because it’s raining” nonsense. I remember once when we were staying in a caravan on holiday and she said “let’s go for a walk down to the beach” even though it was teaming with rain. We just found a couple of carrier bags, put them on our heads and off we went! To this day I’m a real pluviophile 🙂
My parents are great. They’ve always been so good at encouraging me and helping me take risks and to do things that I might not have tried otherwise.
Miss my Dad, he was such a gentleman – worked hard and always had a kind word for everyone x
My mum is the kindest person you could meet, she will never stop doing things for others, despite her own problems. I love her very much. My Dad is a funny man, and we have lots of great memories together. I remember doing the shop on a Sunday with him quite a lot and he even managed to make that fun
I love the unconditional support my parents gave me
My dad is almost 90 and I have some wonderful memories of helping him in the garden & the beautiful walks he would take us on
my dad is always there helping me out even though im a pain
i appreciate my mum so much, shes always so kind to everyone she meets and will help anyone even if it means she goes without. Im one of five and she brought is up all by herself. Ive had health issues since i was 17 and shes been such a support to me
They help me with my children, with school runs and so on, they love them so much and have a fabulous relationship with them.
My dad did so much to help with the children and always had stories to tell them, unfortunately he died recently and is really missed by everyone.
I used to have so much fun with my Dad even though his job in the Army often kept him very busy, sometimes he would sneak me along to help maintain the trucks he looked after, or take me to the firing range or my absolute favourite…abseiling. He taught me that you could achieve whatever you set your mind to whether you were a boy or girl 🙂
My parents are brilliant! I feel very lucky to have them in my life.
My dad is great at advice and my mum is my best friend 🙂

I appreciate their wonderful sense of optimism! No matter what they can find the bright side in everything 🙂
My parents are amazing! They have supported me all throughout my life, especially recently with recovery after domestic violence. They make me laugh, make me happy, and I miss them terribly now I have had to move 200 miles away from my home town. I relish every moment I spend with them when they come to stay with me, love them to bits ☺️
I appreciate the way my mother (and my grandmother, come to that) showed me that I could choose what to do with my life and didn’t have to conform to other people’s expectations.
My mum is the best, She has been with me through everything and truly is my best friend.
My mum always has a smile on her face and never looks down on anyone.
She is so inspirational despite having kidney failure she always remains positive and enjoys every minute of life.
As her job she volunteers to get people into rehabs around the UK that are batterling addictions and 99.9% of the time she manages to get the funding and changes peoples lives for the better.
As well as being so special to me and my sons she is very special to lots of other families too as with the help she provides to others it makes there quality of live so much better.
My mum is a remarkable mum, Nanny and friend to others and I love her very very much x
My parents had a very messy split when I was 14. They didn’t speak for over 12 years, it made things difficult but once I had my Son they put there disagreements aside and are the best Nanny & Grandad. They come to visit at the same time and it makes me happy to know that time heals xx
Having lost my Mum, I really appreciate my Dad who, although we’re all adults has taken on the whole parent role, making us birthday cakes and helping us with any problems, he’s my hero!
My Dad is one in a million. He’s always there for me, either to listen to me moan or to give advice. He’s always supported us all in being independent and giving us the freedom to make our own decisions, but knowing that he’s always there if it ever goes wrong. I don’t know what I’d do without him.

my mum always helps out when we need anything
The lessons they’ve taught me, my dad has passed away now and i try and teach my children the good values he taught me x
The fact that she doesn’t interfere as long as the kids and I are happy
My parents sacrificed a lot to give my sister and me the best upbringing they could. I don’t think it was easy but it’s what we do, isn’t it?
I Appreciate my mum more than she’ll ever know, we were so close to losing her last year when she had a cardiac arrest but thankfully she was one of the lucky ones and got immediate help, makes you appreciate your parents even more when you’re so close to being without them!

I was raised by my Aunt and Uncle from the age of 13 months old, and i couldn’t have wished for better parents. So kind loving and unselfish they sacrificed so much to make my childhood the happiest any child could wish for. They taught me to respect and cherish each and every day and others. They both have sadly passed away now but to me they will always be my beloved Mom and Dad <3 The best parent's in the world 🙂 <3 X x x
the best thing ever was becoming a grandmother, i didnt have parents that i grew up with, so being a good parent, and grandparent was very important to me x
I would be lost without my mum and mother in law, my mum has my daughter some of the days through the week after school when im working, my mother in law has her in half terms. Also my mother in law gave us the deposit for our house, her mother that she worked so hard for. She is amazing!
My mum having to put up with an awkward spoilt brat, think I’ve changed a bit (cringe)
My parents are my world. Words alone can’t explain how much they mean to me.
I appreciate everything they have done & still do for me, it’s something I’ll never be able to repay other than loving them dearly.
My parents are facing health problems, and I do wish I could help them more, MS really doesn’t help. Still, we will get through it all. It’s lovely for us to see how well my daughter is doing, amazing how time passes so fast.

Having lost my precious mum 4 years ago I appreciate my Dad more than anything now for all his help a simple chat over a cup of tea everything means the world to me and I have to admit that i sometimes get panic attacks at the thought of losing him.
Sadly both my parents have passed away my dad when I was 5 and my mum when I was 32 but one thing I really wish I had done was to learn more from my mum she was such a wise lady with a lot of knowledge.
My retired dad keeps the house clean, makes all the meals and drives everybody where they need to be.
I know they will always be there if I need them which is lovely
I really appreciate my parents. My mum and I are really close, and I’ve been spending more time with my dad since he came out of hospital, after a fall.

My parents are sadly both dead now, but there’s not a day goes by when I don’t think of them. My mum’s fund of daft sayings and silly songs still make me chuckle!
