Every new year, we’re always keen to make a fresh start and for me a big part of that is to declutter the house, make more space and give everything a thorough deep clean too. Last year on New Year’s Day itself we gathered together a big pile of un-needed items from our home and gave them all away on Gumtree. This year we’ve been making numerous trips to the charity shop too, and I’m hoping to keep up with a more minimalist life this year!
There are plenty of ways you can make changes in your home to give the impression of more space too, and give a cleaner, fresher, uncluttered look.
Having light coloured walls, and plenty of natural light coming into the home can make a really big difference. I love the look of these bi fold doors from Everest Home Improvements, which allow you to create a seem less flow from your indoor living area, out to the garden. This would be so nice especially in the summer.
Of course carefully planned storage is a big help in giving the decluttered look too. It’s not always realistic to get rid of everything, especially with a house full of kids, but having it tidily hidden away, out of the eye’s gaze can definitely make a big difference. I’ve made some simple changes to our hall way, adding a new bench with storage baskets that hold all of the kids shoes, book bags and swimming bags and means that we no longer have so much clutter in that area. Since that’s the first thing you see when you come into the home, it’s a big improvement.
Next on my list is a thorough clear out of all of our wardrobes. I like the KonMari method of asking “does it bring you joy?” and if not, it’s got to go! I’m sure this will make loads more space, and ultimately boost all of our moods – as I often find that too much clutter brings me down.

I’ve been tackling one room at a time & one top to bottom in each room being very strict with what stays & what goes
Having great storage means that you can sort out all of the clutter. I try to chuck out anything I haven’t used in the past year.
We need to declutter our bedroom – there is stuff piled everywhere (we live in a flat so storage space is at a premium). We did make a start last year and I’m determined we will finish this year as I want the newly freed space for a large bookcase as my books are taking over the flat – boxes everywhere :o)
one room at a time, use clear storage boxes, and donate any thing to charity not used/worn in over 3 months
OUR GARAGE IS A DISASTER AREA
We must declutter the dining room its become more of a storage room.
I always start decluttering after taking our Christmas decorations down – I start with the kids rooms and make room for their new toys by giving their old/un-played with toys to charity or younger cousins.
I declutter when a room starts looking too busy
i need a skip! lol i had one before last year and cleared loads out! x
I have been really ruthless in trying declutter. Moved house last year and thought I had sorted out everything before I moved but clearly not. Each room I am decorating is getting a thorough sort out!!
I have been going through one room at a time having three boxes/piles one for keep one for throw and one for charity shop
Collecting stuff to sell or donate to charity shops – after Christmas sort out.
We have a ‘messy cupboard’ that I make sure I clean out once a month to stop us hoarding rubbish!
We’ve been trying to sell alot of the things we don’t need or donate to charity, it’s helping to declutter our flat x
I give some clothes to charity shops,so I have more room every time
We’ve given given *loads* of stuff away on Freecycle / Freegle. It’s a great way to get rid of stuff that’s too good to throw away but not good enough to sell.
New Year’s Resolution to declutter all the detritus in our home. I started with my clothes and my partner has followed seeing the difference it has made. I have gone through my wardrobe and drawers 3 times so far! It is a wonderful feeling not having piles of clothes lying about as there is now room to put them away and I still have space. I have avoided 3 drawers as they are full of personal mementos and I will find them more difficult to declutter. Our goal is we each must put out 2 items each day – so far it is going well.
Dont keep unwanted gifts – regift or give to charity shop
I’ve actually been decluttering since the summer. Getting ready to move to another house! If I bring one thing in then one goes out to the charity shop!
I’ve been getting storage tips and tricks from Pinterest! There are loads of great ideas for all rooms of the house to help declutter
one space t a time then anything I don’t need goes to charity shop
i have been going through warrobes and cuboards getting rid of things that dont fit me anymore
one thing comes in, another goes out!
I have been getting rid of clothes and other household items we haven’t used in ages. Trying to create room for our little one who is expected to arrive in February!
We bought our son a cabin bed so all his toys can go in his room and not clutter up the living room
I’ve been decluttering our wardrobes recently and donated everything that we haven’t worn for the past year. I just think, if I haven’t worn it in such a long time, I won’t start wearing it again any time soon x
I have just started sorting my wardrobe out. Giving some to charity and some I am using has material to make things with
I plan on just being ruthless. If I havent used it within 6 months its going!
One of our sons has moved back home so we needed a massive clear out in his old bedroom
i started by clearing out my wardrobe and taking stuff to the charity shop
I sorted out my kitchen cupboards the other day and I feel so much better now I can see what I’ve actually got!
The kitchen – we have so many gadgets and baking stuff I have had to have a good sort out! Im planning on sorting the under the stairs cupboard out so I can store all my baking stuff in there. It will get done soon hopefully!
Nothing like decluttering to make you feel so.much about your surroundings
I usually just buy more boxes to put stuff in, but I’m considering giving away some to charity.
We have recently bought a new bed which does not have storage underneath, we are now having to work through all the ‘stuff’ we had under our bed either finding a place for it or getting rid of it
we have a good de-clutter twice a year, however a week or so after we seem to have filled all the newly found storage space as crammed as ever.
Always have a charity box on the go so I can fill it as I tidy – mostly old books, DVD’s and clothes.
I moved house last year and I was really ruthless with what I got rid of. If I knew I didn’t have a use for it I recycled it or gave it away. I am really into recycling everything possible now.
My project at the moment is the playroom – I want a large wardrobe in there and then I want all the toys in tubs and the dressing up hung up so there is play space and things can come out one at a time
Need to tidy and clear the spare bedroom as it always ends up being a dumping ground
I have just finished decluttering the bedrooms. Been through wardrobes and drawers and took 5 bin bags of clothes to re-cycling depot! Downstairs to do next!
We have been decluttering for the last few months. It involves boxing up unwanted / unnecessary items, not actually throwing them away. Also things like cds and dvds have been taken out of their 100’s of cases and put in cd/dvd wallets saving so much space. The place certainly looks better for it
Things iv not used or the past year as made its way into the garbage
If I haven’t used it for a year, its binned or sold!
I have an incentive to declutter to make a permanent home for my sewing machine, instead of it being on the dining table and having to be moved every time we eat there. I think my biggest personal breakthrough has been realising that I don’t have to sell everything I don’t need; if it needs to go, it’s better to get it out of the house rather than necessarily to make its value.
if its not been used for 12 months then sell it recycle it or bin it
I am going to buy a new dresser for my dining room which will give me the impetus to sort out all the clutter in my sideboard, that’s gathered over the years
I have been clearing out the kids playroom and giving old toys to charity!
I am hoping to move house this year and we are trying to declutter each room! I have lived here 21 years there is a lot of stuff!
We decluttered the children’s bedrooms by having a box for charity, a box to put away for Piglet and a box for the dump.
I have definite plans to de-clutter, but I’m a little bit scared of starting!
I’ve decluttered the pantry and relocated things we never used such as the toaster, to the bin. Have also sent toys to charity and boxed up ones that are too young for my eldest but too old for my youngest and put in the loft. Next stop the kids wardrobes.
Great competition, i hope i win!! Lovely blog as well.
My husband is a man on a mission with decluttering – absolutely ruthless!
Finally going through all our old paperwork and shredding anything that wasn’t essential to keep. I can believe how much rubbish there was in our home office!
I need to try and declutter my rooms. Maybe this is the time
I am in the process of decluttering my house now that my children have left, I have got lots of clear plastic boxes to put stuff in and stack them in the large hallway cupboards, and big bags to put stuff for the charity shops in and also another box to put stuff in that I think is worth selling.
My friends have been really helpful when it comes to decluttering lately, with one having given birth to twins (Perfect excuse to pass things my own children have outgrown along) and another has just moved into her first flat, with a limited budget she’s been very greatful for ‘donations’.
My partner is really good working with wood, so he keeps making more shelves to accommodate all our stuff. Storing is not a problem… but we still need to declutter.
If I don’t wear something in my wardrobe I give it to charity.
I have been following the principles in Marie Kondo’s The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. It is brilliant
I usually have big clean after Christmas when all the decorations come down then again when it’s my sons birthday in June. I also have big clear out of clothes when the season change and store in vac bags
We’ve just bought some new drawets for my daughter’s room, as she has so much clutter! We have brought untreated drawers that we can paint and personalise too 🙂
I have been sorting and getting rid of lots of paperwork
I have been sorting through the garage and moving things on, donating things etc that don’t get used.
I plan to move my 2on’s into bunk beds in a room together, in the summer, i intend to buy lots of boxes so i can sort and label their toys in the spare room so we dont have a bedroom and living room full of toys!!
Just got our first flat screen TV (yes, I know!!!) there is a huge void where the fat TV has vacated!
I have so much clutter it is just not funny! I have bought some vacuum pack bags and have been separating our clothes into season bags and then storing them inside our suitcases! I think I need a home makeover team in to organise me properly though!
I need a serious declutter, we have so much stuff that is never used or worn. I am going to try and start with the clothes and work through one person/room at a time
about to move house so I’ve started to give away many things to charity shops and family to help the move easier, it amazing how much junk I have accumulated
i have gone through all the boy’s toys and given some to charity and schooll
My nephew has so much stuff. Everytime i go into the room I want to nag it all and throw it out. He just won’t donate or throw anything away. Will have to do it secretly

clearing the attic
Getting hubby to finally clear the garage! 🙂
I have bought brightly coloured storage boxes which stack nicely and am slowly clearing and storing
I think it’s really important to have a good de-cluttering, I love to be organised but my husband is anything but. I honestly don’t know how he finds anything but he does, I suppose he is organised chaos!
I seriously need to declutter my sons room- starting with a new bed that has some storage!
I find selling my old toot makes it easier for me to part with it, I’m less likely to hoard it then! Anything I don’t sell goes to the charity shop.
Jen xx
I have gone through 9 months of baby clothes ( :'( ) which are now hiding away in the loft!
I turn all the hangers round in the wardrobes, when I wear clothes and put them back I turn the hanger the other way. Every six months as the seasons change, I bundle up all the clothes that haven’t been worm and donate or sell them.
Don’t use it then bin it
I plan to go through my two double wardrobes full of clothes (I mostly don’t wear!) and be ruthless in deciding what to get rid of – either ebaying items or taking them to charity shops.
Throwing out junk you don’t need.
I decluttered my toiletries recently, had so much body lotions, creams etc. I’d received in gift sets and never used. Had a real clear out – gave lots to friends and some to charity shops – great to have clear shelves with room for the things I really want.
We have been using hanging mesh baskets to keep everything tidy in the kids room and they love using them.
I’ve been in my flat for one year now and basically just piled stuff up since – it would be time to throw away some clothes really but I haven’t done it yet
I’ve done a big tidy in my craft room, and now I’m working through my fabric stash.
I’m sorting through the spare bedroom at the moment and have got a new cupboard for extra storage.
I Have been working through all my drawers etc room by room, All the things I no longer need been giving to Charity shops and ive been putting up mirrors as they give the illusion of more space 🙂 Its quite therapeutic having a good spring clean I really enjoy it x

I have fitted storage and shelves into a cuboard and hung brackets for the airer and ironing board so its on the wall out of the way when not being used
My old clothes will be going to a charity shop and I will use the space to store shoes as they all over the floor at the moment.
We’re actually moving house in 2 weeks and so de-cluttering over the last few days has been going on! Organising what can be put into storage, and what needs to go in which rooms and cupboards!
I’ve not started yet as i’m waiting for the car boot season to start so i can hopefully get my house back.x
We have spent the last weekend boarding the loft so we can store our junk and clear our garage!
Most of my stuff has gone up in the attic over the winter – particularly summer clothes as I don’t need them and they take up space. Once spring comes we tend to get it all down and have a good sort out before putting things on eBay or donating to a charity shop
a tidy house gives a tidy mind and efficient house – but this is easier said than done, I have a lot of ‘things’ with an emotional attachment, but you need to be brutal, if you have not looked at it/used it/worn it for over 12 months, then you don’t really need it. Be brave and sell/recycle or dispose of it – but don’t replace it.
We’ve cleared out the wardrobes and next task is under the bed!
I’m filling a bag a day with things to donate or chuck. It’s going well!
I use lots of pretty storage boxes around the house x
We’ve started clearing out our under-stairs cupboard – most things are going to charity or being sold on Ebay.
Dont keep unwanted gifts.donating to a charity shop
My main problem is de-luttering the kids bits! I have boxed and donated loads to charity but also have lots I cannot part with

I started de- cluttering just after Christmas starting with the top of my bedroom wardrobe and then working my way around the room resulting in a big bag for the charity shop 🙂 I usually go room to room cleaning as I go with a bag for rubbish/recycling and a bag for the charity shop 🙂
I’m starting with the study so I have a decent workspace – a clear space will hopefully free up creativity.
my daughter and granddaughter have moved out so we are sorting out the bedrooms
Clearing out the kitchen cupboards

I’m currently decluttering the study!
I work from home and my office seems to be the dumping ground for everyone’s stuff. I spent the weekend de-cluttering, I emptied the office completely, cleaned it from top to bottom and sorted out what needed to be in my office. Everything else I left on the kids beds along with some bin bags. This morning everything was on the floor but they’ve been warned if they don’t put everything away it’s off to the charity shop, so we’ll see how that goes.
I have a clearout once a year, my kids toys also get sorted through once a year (they decide which ones to keep or give to charity) they love helping other kids who are in more need than them so end up with a big bag of toys each year to give to charity! My motto is if it hasnt been used in the last year it hasnt been missed so it can go! X
I’m empting my loft
Were in the process of sorting the garage which had become a dumping ground!! bootfairs here we come
I’ve started decluttering…under the bed! It’s the home of all of the bags of stuff that we don’t know where to put – we don’t need any of it, so I’ve been methodically working through it, bag by bag!
We move house every 3 or so years because of my job. Everytime we move I have a clear out and a carboot sale. If stuff was never unpacked from the last move, then it gets sold, donated or binned 🙂
I really need to de-clutter soon, the wardrobe but general stuff I have laying around.
We’ve got new baskets and boxes to get the kids toys organised abit more
One of the advantages to being an army family is that with the regular moves you do de-clutter with every move. I do also go through my sons clothes every couple of months and donate some to the thrift shop.
Ive been sending stuff to the charity shop
The more space I create the more new things I buy. Its a vicious circle. I try and give things I don’t need to charity.
just done a big clear out of the house in preparation for my daughter due in 3 weeks! i prefer to tackle it all in one go over a couple of days
Sorted all the kids toys out and bought a new unit for them. It’s the only thing that makes my house feel cluttered!
Clearing out anything I don’t need by selling it, giving it to charity or throwing it away and recycling it.
my kitchen to many cupboards means more space for rubbish and junk we just dont need to keep
I haven’t got round to it yet, but I really need to do a big clear out this year.
I’ve been making sure that everything in the house has a “home” and that it goes back to “home” after use rather than being left laying around.
I just collect everything we don’t use, don’t need and throw it up into the loft. It’s like a junk store up there so I’ve promised myself that I will go up there and sort when the weather gets warmer, think I’m going to need a skip.
I have been sorting out all of the kids and my old clothes to take to the charity shop, it is amazing how much extra space I have managed to create

I am planning to declutter in the next few weeks, we are selling our house soon and need to get rid of a lot of clutter
I declutter regularly anyway but I really need a new shredder as mine broke & I now have several big boxes of shredding to be done. That would help clear a lot of space & some more storage boxes.
i contacted a local food bank who were after clothes, toys etc and they came and collected strraight from my house.
To be honest I really don’t keep clutter anything I don’t want like old clothes and toys etc goes straight to charity and I literally have a place for everything, there is one place that isn’t organised in my house and that is the food cupboard everything is just jammed in , in a mess
I replaced cardboard storage boxes in the loft with clear plastic ones so that I can easily see what is in each one. A real time saver.

I’m trying to “put away not down” with everything. It’s actually helping immensely
I put all clutter in a bag and then work to sort out from the bag – it seems much more manageable that way.
I’ve managed to build up lots of toiletries! I’m organising them into categories in different boxes so I use up one before opening another.
Put everything in the garage(except the car)so you will have more room in the house 🙂
We are in the middle of a major redecoration at the moment and have been very ruthless about getting rid of stuff we don’t need or use anymore. Also have had our old storecupboard damp-proofed and repainted, so we can now use it to store the kids toys, which will give us a lot more space, thank goodness!
I always give a load of stuff to charity shops every few months
We did a lot of decluttering last year and the key is to be ruthless with things that you throw away. Worth it in the end.
I have a rule, if it’s not been used for 6 months than time for it to go.. I hate clutter and love space
Culling the kids toy box – decided my children received wayyyy too much for Christmas this year 😉
i havent even began to declutter yet so im enjoying reading all the comments xx
I gave away some of my unused clothing which cleared up some wardrobe space
Honestly? I don’t have much clutter. I’m good at throwing stuff out if I don’t use it. We also don’t use our garage or loft for storage. If you can put it away in a loft then you don’t actually use/need it. (only exception would be something like a cot if you’re planning more future kids.)
Im going to do a carboot to get rid of loads of things
My daughter has turned 5 so lots of her toys have been gathered up to take to a charity shop – I kept some for baby number 2 but they’ve gone into boxes in the garage! The garage is next that needs tackling – it’s a bit of a mess 🙂
Started on th elounge – bookcases overflowing
Good advice luv

I’ve filed away all my uni work from last semester ready for new classes, and I’ve gutted out my make up to put in the new dressing table I’ve been eyeing up!
I declutter when my head starts to feel cluttered, clears my mind.
We have just moved into a house with less floor space so we really had to declutter. Ended up sorting through things one box at a time and donating anything we didn’t need to a charity shop. We also change over our wardrobe each season into vacuum bags which is a great opportunity to donate any clothes we have not worn in a while!
My crafting room hasn’t been cleared out for 3 years 🙁 so for the last 2 weeks i have been taken everything off the shelves and sorting out what i need and what i don’t, then sorting all the boxes fall of material out and putting the scraps into bags, then i sewed them together and made blankets and visited the homeless to give them something to keep them warm.. clears the mind and the sole..
I’m trying to declutter this year by going through things and getting rid of things I don’t need.
We’re renovating which makes de cluttering a real challenge as our stuff is spread out in odd places and moving all the time. It’s hard to know what needs getting rid of and what’s annoying simply because it doesn’t have a proper place to live.
Slowly selling things on eBay though and as we finish renovating I’ll be making serious decisions about what stays and what goes
I am planning on getting a hi-sleeper for my eldest daughter so she can have a desk for homework and extra storage space. She has just moved in to her own room and it needs revamping!

Ive started with my 16 year old sons room, whilst he Is In school,I throw out what he doesnt need then leave a pile of things that we can both sort out when he gets home
Im also doing my kitchen cupboards,When Im “on one” everyone leaves me alone as Im In the zone as they say and If It hasnt been used In the past few months In the bin It goes
Once a year my wife and I take a bin bag each and fill it with anything we no longer want (clothes; DVD’s; knick-knacks; books etc) and take it down to the charity shop. It’s amazing how much room that can create.
I’ve boxed up my unread books in the front room so I can pick them up one by one xx
My wife hates clutter so always stays on top of things. Nothing is left out after use. If there is no-where to store something and it is of no use nor ornament, it gets sold or given away!
I de cluttered the kids playroom after Christmas. I bought loads of plastic storage boxes so all the toys could be put in the boxes and stacked up to create more floor space.

I do one room at a time, but tend not to have much clutter about the place.
We have boarded out our tiny loft and have ruthlessly deposed of anything we don’t want, although it was just so difficult. We have packed everything into plastic, lidded boxes and written the contents on in permanent marker.

I’ve not yet started, but my intention is to clear the house over the next couple of months. I had a major declutter about 5 years ago. It took three solid weeks (living on take aways – no time to cook!) and was a real emotional rollercoaster, but by the time I had finished it felt so liberating.
Fab giveaway, thank you 🙂 x
I muttered i must declutter to create a bit of space,
Old clothes, unwanted gifts and an empty luggage case.
Spring is nigh, a clean to do from top to bottom of the home, cant stop much more to to, before im off to rome.
Donating my old clothes and shoes.
I need to clear a LARGE volume of items recently so started by collecting items that would be suitable for the Syrian Refugee appeal – warm or waterproof clothing, sleeping bags, wellies/boots and any basic toiletries and baby supplies I didn’t need. Then I filled a box for the local charity shop with things I didn’t want but couldn’t sell, also a box for Ebay, and a box for things that belonged to other people that needed to be returned (was surprised at how much went into this box!). Lastly a box for the recycling centre including batteries, broken toys and equipment. Just by compartmentalising one location at a time I was able to make fast decisions and clear a lot in a short space of time.
I’m trying to clear the attic. I recently took books I haven’t read for ages to a sale at our local church. Money raised is going to Kondoa. I’ve also recently given blankets for the refugee crisis. As I’m getting older it won’t be long before I won’t be able to get into the attic so little by little I’m clearing the space.
Over the last couple of months we have made sure that anything that is not used, worn and wanted has been got rid off.
I’ve bought some lidded baskets to fit into our book case for all the photos we have knocking around in packets.. some of our drawers were full of them

we have turned the old airing cupboard into a shelved space, lots of junk fits in there now
We’re in the process of boarding out our loft space and adding lighting and cupboards for extra storage. We’re going to label it in seasons so we know what needs to be brought out at what time of year.
I have a big charity bag in the playroom, when I find a toy or clothes that don’t fit it goes straight in there. Amazing how quickly it gets filled up.
Have already started decluttering the spare bedroom and once spring has sprung I’m planning on clearing out our bomb site of a garage x
i have lots of junk and things i dont need going to the charity shops
Going to charity shops to donate stuff I don’t need, and the recyling centre with junk!
I try to live by the 2 minute rule – if it takes less than 2 minutes do it straight away means less decluttering to do in the first place
I am always de-cluttering and it seems to be a never ending task! My next big job though is my daughters bedroom! We are going to get her a Cabin Style bed with storage underneath so that there isn’t stuff everywhere (wish me luck!)
Once spring arrives we’ll be doing a massive declutter – starting with the garage!! xx
Use different coloured bags when sorting – eg black for the tip and white for the charity shop. Try and be disciplined though sometimes getting some quick wins and removing bulky items is good for morale. I try and tackle items rather than rooms eg clothes from all the house today and books from all the house tomorrow. That way you get into a single item decision-making rhythm
All bookss, DVD’S, CD’S and inherited vinyl to the British Heart Foundation Shop. All clothes toys and good clean items to The Trinity Hospice (no rubbish), items sold on ebay and the rest recycled. This process is continuous and highly recommened. We all have too much stuff!
I have been going through my wardrobe and having a good rummage through all my clothes and donating those not needed to charity.
I have been on a decluttering mission for a year. Donating clothes we don’t need. Going through boxes of mainly rubbish and sorting it. I am getting there slowly but with three boys there is a lot of stuff to go through and not much time!
I’ve been bagging stuff up and taking it to the RSPCA Charity Shop.
My son went to Uni this past september so I literally blitzed his old room and must have thrown out a third of the old junk that was in there. Couldn’t believe how therapeutic it was!
We started decluttering before Chrstmas but have a long way to go. Both my daughter and I sorted out our wardrobes last weekend and gave bin bags full to charity shops. This weekend I want to tackle my numerous bookcases and under bed storage.
I am currently selling lots of unwanted items and clothes on eBay to try and make some room! I have taken lots to charity and got some new storage.
I need to buy some storage bits and pieces for my sons room as he has no where to put anything
I have just invested in a very nice wooden shoes box for the porch this will help declutter the hallway and bedrooms.
I try to spend half an hour a day de-cluttering, that way it doesn’t become overwhelming
I get quite ruthless every few months and have a clear out – but there’s still loads more to get rid of next time! 😉
I had a bit of a purge of children’s books/toys before xmas but seriously need to do some more de-cluttering!
I try to clear out regularly, ask the kids what they don’t want & take it to the charity shop, but things still mount up again quickly!
Have a super clean (one room at a time though!) Go though everything. Drawers especially. Don’t need it? Dump/donate/recycle.
Also a big fan of repurposing/relocating. A dust collector in one place can be very useful in another.
We did something quite drastic & moved house (not just for the purpose of decluttering though!) – was very therapeutic to throw away so many things we haven’t used for years.
Maximise clever storage and minimise clutter but throwing out what hasn’t been used/touched/needed within the last year 🙂
As well as the usual new year three way sort, (charity/chuck/Ebay) have been doing some soul searching about stuff have been hanging onto for sentimental value! As I seem quite sentimental it mounts up so have tried to be a bit more ruthless, not totally there yet but have made good progress. 🙂
I am constantly trying to declutter – I am too sentimental, so recently got a large storage box and scrapbook for each of my sons. I can then sort out some choice pieces of artwork, and things to keep from their childhood, put these in the loft, and then feel better about chucking some of the other stuff away!
My husband and I have just decluttered our spare room ready for when our first baby is born in April a lot was thrown away or took to the charity shops but some things we wanted to keep we put in the loft
we need a serious declutter in our dining room and turn it back into a room for eating in.
I have a one in one out policy, always take a bag to charity shop withn donations most weeks so stuff does not build up, once a month when I do my big food shop clean all the kitchen cupboards out and put new stuff at back, old at front so no tin/packet goes off.
Organise cables with cable ties
I have been attempting to declutter the office. Need to sort and get rid of lots of paper!
managed to declutter lots of baby things that my daughter had grown out of when a neighbour had a new baby. It was great being able to pass things onto them that were of such great use to them.
I’ve been sorting things out into boxes and labelling them!
Get shut of the partner its all his clutter, wheelie bin is coming in handy
I declutter by giving old clothes in charity
I’ve been trying to declutter one drawer/cupboard at a time, if I try and tackle a whole room I get overwhelmed and nothing goes!
To declutter I always before Christmas get a bin bag and then go through my daughters rooms and donate any Unused toys to a charity shop, this year I really had to declutter especially with their baby’s so close to Christmas and a new baby on the way 🙂 xx
I hated the clutter in the hall which everyone could see when they come in the house. I moved the coat rack to the kitchen (on the wall behind the door) and have bought a low drawer unit which sits in the hall and where all the hats, gloves, scarves, bags are now stored. My hall is now all clear and light again!
I’ve been decluttering for a while now as I began selling lots of stuff I no longer needed on the Internet 🙂
Definitely need a declutter. Me and hubby are going to sort through our stuff tomorrow and see what we need to sell as we’re a little short this month due to a large unexpected bill. Most people (my in laws included) will just throw anything out, but me and him see a potential value to everything. Why throw it out if you can benefit from it and another person can benefit too?
I’ve just moved house and I was so brutal when I moved. If I hadn’t used it recently, it went straight to the charity shop. My new house looks very minimal!
Once a month I declutter and donate anything I dont need/use to charity 🙂
I def need to deck utter and am concentrating on doing very small manageable areas
we’ve been sorting out books and clothes to give to charity!
I have been sorting out things to go to the local charity shop
I’ve sorted a couple of cupboards out this month, will do more as time goes on, get rid of things I dont need anymore x
Donate things to charity all the time.
Starting next weekend I’m having a big clear out
Im forever trying to de-clutter but I have the worlds most untidiest boyfriend, he will walk in the kitchen n leave keys, shoes, hat, scarf, phone reciepts etc etc on the table and sides! It drives me mad!
I always have a clear out before Christmas in storage cupboards and the kids room. Then I begin to start on my room after Christmas, and then slowly to do the rest of the house.
I’ve been slowly but surely clearing out the loft
We’re having a major decluttering session, trying to free up a room to make a second spare bedroom. So far we’ve done about half the clothes and half the books, and made a start on the kitchen cupboards. I’ve noticed that as our house empties, our daughter’s house is filling up with our unwanted stuff – I think that’s our revenge for her teenage years!
I’ve started decluttering the spare room. It seems to be the place we just dump things and forget about them. The last couple of weeks ive been listing on eBay and facebook selling sites, slowly but surely!
We’re going to start on the computer room , which at the moment is the dumping ground . When we’ve sorted everything seems to get dumped there. We must crack on with the sorting .
I need 3 skips!!!
I have already started to de-clutter, sorting clothes – many unworn – to send to fund-raising charity stall for a small hard-working dog rescue. (We adopted our lovely dog from them. The charity is completely run by volunteers, no-one gets paid. They save dogs from death row at the pound and rely on car boot sales and donations). Many need expensive vet treatments) I intend to work on each room at a time, going through wardrobes, cupboards and drawers, as over the years we have accumulated so much stuff.
Hubby has promised to do the same in the garage and shed
I hate clutter so am always decluttering. If something hasn’t been used for about 6 months, out it goes. To the charity shop, sold on ebay or just thrown out!
Had a good sort out of the toy cupboard just before Christmas and got rid of so much!
Being ruthless when I declutter! Throwing out the bad and bagging up anything that is good for someone else, to take to my local charity shop. Under the stairs next! I may be gone some time…..@JuJu_Carbo
I’m told I have OCD but I don’t… I really don’t like clutter. If you don’t use it…don’t keep it!
I always try to stay tidy and about once a month I go on a blitz and throw things out that have been cluttering for a few months.
I’ve been taking bits to charity, selling others stuff on Ebay. Little by little.
No real need to declutter – if you don’t keep buying things you don’t need, then you don’t need to declutter every 5 mins!
I’m planning to declutter, I think it’s a good idea to get a friend to help you if you have a lot to do as if you’re anything like me you’ll be tempted to keep so many things. If you have an outside perspective you can sort out through your things quicker and you’ll be less tempted to keep so many things!
anything I haven’t worn in a year is going to the charity shop this Spring!!
I have started thinning out my ever growing book collection.
I’ve decluttered one bedroom, but this seemed to mainly to involve moving everything into another room, that room is next on the list for decluttering.
First job planned when the weather brightens up is to get a skip and start on decluttering the garage. It holds so much clutter that the car never gets a chance to shelter there. It is full of possessions from parents, children that come back from university and put all their suitcases and household goodies in there. There are tins of half used paint, lawn mowers, wood, china and so much more. The things you think will be useful, but never will. So this is the time to blitzi it.
We’ve recently moved house and my sons going from a cot bed to a big bed so we have bought lots of tubs, shelving units and hide always for his toys and clothes to make his room more spacious.
I pop on the music and start one room at a time, what ever I don’t use or wear send it too the charity shop.
Fantastic prize!
Sorting out my daughter’s room to decorate
I am having a massive de-clutter. I’m shredding paperwork, sending clothing to charity shops and am trying to organise everything else. My fiancé keeps complaining that he can’t find anything anymore but at least it’s looking neater now!
I need a serious declutter of all rooms as it’s starting to look like a hoarders home with the children’s toys and clothes. Bought a large storage unit from Ikea to make a start on sorting the living room out though. Just need to save some pennies to buy storage solutions for the rest 😉
Everytime I take something out of my wardrobe and it doesn’t fit me or I don’t feel comfortable in it, I put it in a bag to throw out/give to charity etc
Right now, my decluttering means if I don’t use it, I sell it on ebay and if it doesn’t sell, I donate it or throw it away. It’s both helping me to organize and to earn some extra cash! But some new storage solutions from John Lewis would be great!
I have just made my own built in wardrobes so I can arrange the storage exactly how I need it to be!
I think Good Food magazines and cookbooks have been breeding. In our old house that wouldn’t be a problem, but we only have a tiny kitchen here, so I need to take the magazines to the doctor’s surgery and have a good think about what cookbooks I can let go. Difficult, but if I want to have room to actually cook, it needs doing.
Step one has to have bought some lovely boxes to use as storage so at least the clutter is hidden!
I recently bought some pretty and cheap storage boxes from Clas Ohlson and they help to keep me organised 🙂
I have been sorting out clothes kids have grown out of and bagging them up. gonna get photos of them and put them on selling pages to make some money back
I’ve been trading in old books and DVDs using the Ziffit app – to make way for the new stuff we got for Christmas and have a bit of a general de-clutter!
I’m quite ruthless with decluttering and get rid of anything that I don’t use after 12 months.
Great competition. I would buy some storage boxes to help keep things tidy.
Wonderful prize, many thanks
I actually love to have a declutter every once in a while. Today, I am going to go through all of our children’s books and give away the ones that are too young for us now. Another day, I would go through a wardrobe or a drawer. It’s always nice to get that extra space!
Sorting out items in different storage boxes clearly labelled so that we can find them when needed!
Trying to do one decluttering task each weekend – last weekend, it was the shelving unit (and all the storage boxes on it!) in the lounge.
This weekend it’s divan drawers!
I go through one room at a time and be strict with myself. i do piles which i find easier i.e throw away, donate & sell piles.
We recently decluttered our living room by moving toys up to bedrooms now the children are old enough to use the stairs by themselves 🙂 amazing how much room toys take up
Putting all my clutter on ebay – that way I can make some cash as well as clearing some much needed space!!!
i plan to buy lots of storages boxes in different sizes so when i open my cupboards thing don’t fall out. things will sorted into KEEP- THROW-RECYCLE, all boxes will be labeled so i know whats in them without rooting through everything
I am lucky enough to have a room which I use solely for sewing and crafting which I have recently decluttered and organised using a storage boxes and shelving. I found things I’d forgotten I had!
I have the wonderul Flylady to help me, so I set my times for 5 minutes once or twice a day and declutter something. It really helps to keep things under control
I keep putting off sorting my sewing cupboard as I need to either downsize or find decent storage for it
i made my self a promise this year that i would declutter for 15 minutes a day . i am nearly done and life is so much easier. now i dont have piles of stuff everywhere and everything has a home i barely spend any time cleaning up and have more time to spend with my daughter 🙂
I’ve moved many times in my life and I can definitely recommend moving as a great way to get rid of your excess rubbish!
Need to make this a priority!
Freecycle is going to be busy, the garage is finally getting cleared out this spring!
stop dumping clothes in the spare room and take them to the recycling or charity shop instead
i’ve been quite ruthless in january and threw out/recycled any clothes or items that i’ve not worn or used for months!!
I tend to declutter on an ongoing basis – in a very random and non methodical way! I’ll just notice like a drawer or shelf or something that looks messy, and sort it out, throwing or giving away what I can 🙂
We have been reading today about eco-houses called earthships. We would love to totally declutter and build one of these in the future.x
if you dont need it then sell it
I do one room at a time. I am currently decluttering my kitchen cupboards and do one cupboard at a time, otherwise you get bored and lose interest. Little and often
I’ve been decluttering for 20
My kitchen cupboards are next on the list. I like to keep things quite minimal but sometimes it gets a little out of hand. My tip is keep on top of clutter!
If you have too many mementos from your past, filter them down – no one needs to keep every birthday card they ever received! Buy a nice box and only keep enough items to fit in the box & recycle/ bin everything else, it’s not easy but you’ll be thankful for the space
i have been totally ruthless and if i haven’t used something for over a year or worn for the same amount of time it goes and am only keeping my favourite dvd’s and books also
Charity shop
If I haven’t used or worn it for a year – out it goes. This works very well for me.
I’m in the process of decluttering our wardrobes and kitchen – we seem to amass tonnes of unnecessary and unused stuff!
I’ve gone through all my children’s old toys and donated them to charity as well as their old clothing that can’t fit anymore!
We have a rule that if not used something in over a year we take it to charity shop
Went right through house top to bottom!
I tend to sort and clear as I go
Me and my friends are having a swishing party so that we can swap all the clothes, shoes and make-up that we no longer need.
Love the does it bring you Joy mantra, will put this into practice. I clean in situ so if I’m having a shower I clean the bathroom etc…..
Getting more cupboards has made it tidier, as well as having the occasional car boot sale. Our lean-to is still a colossal mess though!
Every month we have a small decluttering session, we do donate often to a local charity, that does prevent things getting out of hand
I’ve had a big clear out and donated loads of toys and clothes we don’t use.
I’m trying to stick by my ‘if I haven’t used it, or thought about it for 2 years it goes’ rule, unless its sentimental of course (which almost everything seems to be now…!
I have LOTS of plans …need the money and energy to do it 🙂
Eekk it’s January and I have failed so far to start my decluttering mission! Starting with the attic this weekend, I promise!
I go through my stuff and yhe kids, and if it’s not been seen, worn or played with for over 6 months I either bin, pass it on or sell, to de clutter and keep on top of things, as my mum is a horder I really don’t want to end up with her favourite saying ” oh keep that it will come in handy one day”.
dont be too sentimental about things, keep all your special things in a ‘memory box’ to bring out from time to time, to make you smile, then recycle, sell, or give to charity everything else that is useful
Determination and will power, that’s my receipt for de-cluttering. I find it really hard to make myself to do it, but once started can’t be happy enough for getting back all the space that was cluttered!
determination and will power. That’s my receipt for de-cluttering. It’s hard to make youreslf do it, but once started can’t be happy enough about all freed space!
My study is currently some kind of walking wardrobe for my daughters unwanted clothes!
In December we get rid of loads of old toys because of Christmas coming and 2 of the children have birthdays in December and January
Tackle one room at a time before moving on to the next.
I’ve been sorting out my kids toy room and putting all the toys they don’t play with away to charity.
I do it little and often when the kids are at school. I get organised before hand. Declutter by room weekly. Found it easier. More efficient
I’ve been following the ‘KonMari’ method from’The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up’ by Marie Kondo. Totally effective and totally life changing.
Been filling up charity sacks when they arrive and doing a bit of sorting at a time. Have sorted kitchen cupboards and now can see what we have and make lists on what we need.
One room at a time, and set aside a few hours at a time. Don’t overdo it!
have been decluttering a little each day,and taking items to charity shop,or things that are broken straight to the tip!! rooms are now looking good!!
I use cutlery drawer inserts in lots of places to help keep things tidy. Particularly good for make-up or that kitchen drawer full of batteries, elastic bands and odd screws.
Recently decluttered our garage, got things out the rafters and off to the tip, sorted out old things we’d not used in 10 years and took them to the charity shop, cleared the floor, cleared surfaces as much as we could, even damp dusted the inside of the garage door! Get me!
This would be great as we’re moving to a new flat sooN!
Under bed storage boxes are great!
I think the most important thing to do when de-cluttering is to concentrate on one room at a time. If you want to store items for future use, make sure you do it properly. Box items securely and label the boxes and if you’re storing delicate clothing, use acid free tissue paper.
Definitely good to do
I leave books & magazines I know I’ll never read again in my local train station waiting room and list them on BookCrossing
I live in one room in a shared house, so there’s a constant need to keep things tidy and decluttered as I just don’t have the space to be messy!
I need to declutter my hall cupboard, i like to use kids lidded toyboxes to store stuff away that i dont need on a daily basis.
I have invested in lots of plastic boxes with lids that I can fill and stack up to keep everything tidy
I’ve been quite strict with myself since the start of the new year, if I havn’t used it in 2015, I probably won’t in 2016 so off to the charity shop it goes! 🙂
I moved house in December after 30 Years n the same house. I tried to be ruthless with my decluttering. I was acfrequent visitor to all the link cal charity shops & my car could navigate itself to the lcal authority recycling area!!
However now I:m in my new house, which I’m delighted to say has plenty of storage space I still have too much, particularly clothes and I’m planning another clear out. As the saying roughly goes you wear 20% of your clothes for 80% of the time!!!! I think this is definitely true for me.
Whilst planning my move I found the Kon Marie methods – I fold all my clothes in draweers using her method now.
I find YouTube a great resource for inspiration. There is a wealth of clips on there showing you handy hints and tips re storage and decluttering. I find these clips invaluable.
Lots going on here books, clothes and ornaments going to the charity shop. Im clearing at least 5 things a day to slowly get the house under control.
good luck everyone, and thank you for the opportunity 🙂
Every 6 weeks (every half term) I try and declutter kids’ room as it seems to be storing all our unnecessary things! Bags full of charity clothes! I really have no idea if or how they grow out of their clothes so fast! I try to keep everything to minimum and don’t keep things we don’t need (although my husband would love to keep most of the things “for later”) 🙂
First get some storage boxes to use space such as under beds etc
we have started by putting broken toys in been next step is putting out stuff they have grown out of we also clear out kids clothes a few times a year and give them to friends so there little ones can use them
I am currently sorting out my clothes as I am using 2 wardrobes and most of it I don’t wear! It’s good to have a declutter regularly, I feel like I declutter my mind at the same time
clearing out my wardrobe, to make room for the new me as I am loosing weight. yay
These are really terrific ideas! I agree that there are many ways to refresh your home and give it a brighter and cleaner look. I need to take a little bit more for my house because I was really busy lately and it is a mess. I am planning on doing a renovation in the spring, as well. Thank you for sharing these great ideas!
At the end of the winter I clear out all the winter clothes that I didn’t wear that year, but kept just in case I might. I do the same at the end of summer too. Sometimes I give clothes two season’s chance – especially if they’ve been favourites in the past. After that though, if they haven’t been worn, they’re out!
I have bought a few ottomans with dividers in to keep things I have no proper storage for. They also serve as seats and a coffee table.
We are working on a room a week. If we come across bits we haven’t used / worn for a year then we throw it / give it away or give it to charity.
i threw everything out i hadnt used for a long time. by the time you want it youve forgotten you own it and then buy another one.
We’ve bought lots of new storage. I’ve also been going through my cupboards and eBaying anything I haven’t used/worn in the past 2 years.
throw away stuff you havent used for a least one year
Cleaned out drawers this week and now on to wardrobes getting rid of the clothes not worn or too big or too wee
Be ruthless! Any clothes in your wardrobe that you haven’t worn in the past year, place in recycling – make lots of space for clothes to hang freely.
I have been spending one day a week going through one area and being ruthless, if I have not used it in a while its gone!
I do it a bit at a time, that way it’s not such a huge job.
We are re clearing all all cupboards and drawers and throwing what we don’t need and then re organising them so it all fits back in neatly.
We have a cupboard we are trying to tidy out at the moment .
I keep everything very organised in the attic so I can store and find stuff
I love a shelf as i love to see all the things i collect, if i run out of space i add a shelf lol x x
We’re hoping to move house this year so definitely need to declutter, it just having the motivation to get started. I walk in E spare room, look at it and walk back out lol
i have been sorting my wardrobe by donating everything i haven’t worn for more than a year
We are sorting out the house and being a bit ruthless. We have also got some storage boxes to make things a bit more tidier.
Gave couple of bags to charity 🙂
I threw away lots of things when I moved. I couldn’t believe how much rubbish I had!
kids playroom – bombsite
I have major plans o declutter the whole house as we are moving this year. If it’s not fixed down it’s not staying!!
I have cleared out my side room, got a load of cheap bookcases and storage boxes and labelled them up so I can find what I need easier
I have just finished redecorating my bedroom. We took down the huge, barely used wardrobe and have up cycled a vintage charity shop wardrobe!
I am in the process of decluttering my craft room. It got to the stage where I wasn’t making cards or doing paintings because there wasn’t room.
I started by putting up shelves to create extra storage space. Now all my paper and card lives on shelves and not on the floor, cahirs and table. Rubber stamps live in drawers where they should.
Now I need to learn to be ruthless and throw out or sell stuff I do not use because I have too much stuff.
I’ve had such a major declutter recently and it feels amazing – now the real challenge is going to be not filling it up with more clutter!
I’ve been donating some old stuff to charity.
Both my daughters have recently left home so this has been the catalyst for me changing carpets, curtains, furniture and decorating. This has lead to major decluttering all over the house. I’ve always been the one that never throws anything out (which drives my husband crazy!) but I seem to have had a new lease of life and find it quite therapeutic.
I’ve been ebaying everything I don’t need anymore to try and get rid of the things I no longer use/need….I have put shelves up in my cupboards in the kitchen and bedrooms and have rearranged everything to try to better utilise the space.
I so need to de clutter but health issues have made it hard but I am determined to do it room by room
My bedroom desperately needs tackling but I need to buy some new bedroom furniture first which I can’t afford atm
Be ruthless. I start with the children’s toys, if my daughter hasn’t played with one for a while I take it to the charity shop. Then clothes..I sell these on and have made a surprising amount of money from it! I organise everything so it’s in order, at least it looks a bit smarter then!
I’ve been doing one room at a time, having a big sort out and making sure to get rid of things that never get used.
We plan on decluttering our spare room
My daughter has moved out amazing how much space I now have
one room at a time is a great idea……….now I just gotta find the energy to start on the one room
If I haven’t used it in a year it goes, you have to be ruthless
I have worked my way through every room in the house getting rid of anything that we no longer need. I agree with you how it lifts your mood. The one exception to this are my books. I cannot bear to part with any of them 🙂
I’ve been loving all the Ikea hacks – they have some great ways to save space
I’ve just been trying to find places for everything, A room looks a lot less cluttered if everything is in its rightful place & not left out. It also makes everything easier to find.
I need desperately to declutter my kitchen
We have just bought a load of tupperware and plastic storage and reorganised our kitchen cupboards. It looks so much neater now, everything is easy to get to and we used the time to clear out all those bits and pieces in the back of the cupboard that we never use.
We did manage to declutter a small corner of our bedroom, but then filled it with stuff from another corner.
I’ve been having a clear out starting with the wardrobes. Managed to declutter so many clothes I never wear. My wardrobe looks so much better for it now.
I’m going to declutter our bedroom. I’ll give some to charity and sell other bits and pieces to go towards our holiday fund to celebrate being together 20 years.
I’m just starting a major declutter – I’ve done one corner of the bedroom so far.
I’m just starting, feeling a bit overwhelmed with it, but taking one area at a time!
I’ve sorted my bedroom cupboards and draws out today and have got lots to take to the charity shops tomorrow. I plan to declutter one room at a time.
I’ve been going through toys and getting rid of the ones that have not been played with for a few months
I have been sorting through my girls old clothes that I had saved in case my third baby was also a girl (he’s not) so now I’m selling and sending to charity
I have plans! They are to go through the house room by room with a bin bag, a bag for charity and a bad for storage and anything that’s not really being used can go in one of the three. We really need to declutter, especially toys, our house is too small!
I have been trying to get rid of some of our clutter on Gumtree.
I am afraid i am a complete hoarder but, after months of persuasion and nagging lol i have plucked up the courage to finally declutter. I have found it very helpful to take before and after photographs of the area/ cupboard or room you have decided to tackle. It is VERY rewarding to look at your achievement from what was a MESS and now lovely and tidy 🙂 X x
I have been sorting through all my clutter and taking anything I dont need or haven’t used for 6 months down to my local charity shops x
we have a baby due next month so we have decluttered n got rid of anything unnecessary to make room for all her necessary bits
i have a huge cupboard upstairs but it has only one shelf and is such a waste of space so i plan to turn it into a cupboard to hold all my craft things and sewing machine to give me a little nook to call my own
So far I have gotten rid of:
4 sets of bedding
12 pairs of shoes
8 bags
and 60 pairs of socks!!!! (yes that is right 60 pairs and I still have a drawer full!)
I’ve given it all away on freecyle with lots of it going to a lady who collects for the homeless
I’m working on one drawer / cupboard / box at a time and beiing brutal
I’m doing little and often, a place for everything and everything in it’s place and not bringing clutter into the home or garden by not making impulse buys and keeping to the do I really want it/need it/will I use it mantra.
things go into the loft which we wish to keep most go to charity or family members so nothing goes into the bin which is good hopefully we are going to redecorate this year too, fabulous giveaway
I’ve read Marie Kondos book and am raring to go!
Doing lots of selling on eBay
We have had a major post Christmas de clutter, some of the gifting sites are great for things that are too good for throwing away
I put things in storage tubs And have a 12 month rule if it’s not been used within that time then put into storage xx
The bin men come on Friday and there’s always eBay
A strict half an hour each day devoted to decluttering – can really see the results immediately and not too long to get bored or want to put it off.
we have cleared our wardrobes and my boys have sort out books and toys which they no longer play with
I have storage bags in spaces that I don’t use like between my bed and my window
Fantastic giveaway, would love to win. fingers crossed xxxxxx ????
My husband moans at me for being a hoarder but he is just as bad! Well you never know when it may come in useful! I have been trying to go through one drawer or one cupboard every day and being pretty ruthless with it. Will take time but I will get there. Fun discovering some of the things I have put away (but not used as yet lol) Also trying to stop myself from buying kitchen gadgets that look fab but never get used (like the spiralizer I have just bought – still in the box)
Thank you for the giveaway! I intend to sort out all the clothes that no longer fit me or I don’t wear anymore and donate them to a charity shop.
I’ve just got to get round to decluttering the spare room – it’s like a car boot sale in there
sorting out the kids toys
iv started on one room at a time, throwing or selling stuff i do not use anymore and reorganising draws etc…
I have just accepted an offer for my house so I need to have a serious declutter! I’ll do it a room at a time I think.
I’ve just started decluttering our kids bedrooms.
I have donated lots to charity and I’m planning to do a car boot once they begin.
I’ve also bought some storage boxes, to get things organised.
Selling stuff is the best way!
fed up of clutter – head on tackle so taking a room a month to clear completely of clutter and get some trays organising boxes for little odds and ends that fill up drawers, first room is the living room
I have taken all of our dvds out of their cases- recycled the plastic cases and used a large dvd slip folder for the discs.
Clearing out toys and games that never get played with!!!
We’ve had my daughter and six year old grand-daughter living with us since last March and it has been lovely. To have spent all this time with my little grand-daughter has just been wonderful. The down side is,we don’t have a very big house and although the bulk of her things are in storage we have no room at all. They’ve obviously had the two spare bedrooms but things have sort of spread everywhere,a bit like tendrils of a plant, slowly taking over. Her house will we ready to move into in early April and although I’ll miss them both it will be lovely to get our house back and no struggling past units and toys in the hall .>the house will be tidy once more and I’m already thinking I’ll miss them !
we have built in wardrobes so i’ve shortened the hanging space and put shelving at one end and above the rail for things like bags belts tops and things and one at the bottom for shoes i also sort cupboards weekly and use up things and drain all little bits of shower gell bubble bath into the hand wash and all clothes are sorted before being packed away at end of the seasons
we’ve only just moved house so had a massive clear out then lots of unused things went to new homes
I have tried to keep on top of it, as I go. As soon as the kids have grown out of something I have either passed it on to a friend or donated straight away. Cd’s &DVD’s that are no longer wanted have been sold or passed on. Paperwork has been dealt with and shredded as needed. I’m getting there and storage boxes are a life saver.
I’m trying to tackle my mess of a bedroom. Clothes EVERYWHERE
We try and do it room by room and usually find bits and bobs to eBay and we then use the proceeds of that to buy whatever new items we need.
I just make sure I declutter regularly
In a word: Gumtree. Saves so much on postage and fees compared to eBay
I have been doing one room at a time starting from top of the house making my way to the bottom and keeping at it regulary x
I am going through the whole house decluttering everything room by room atm as I’m fed up of all the clutter. I’m being ruthless with items and clothes and its either going to be binned, recycled or donated depending on the condition. My goal is a tidy, clutter free house and everything put away in the right places! I have quite a few children so I am getting them in on the act and making it into a fun game based on the kids programme that made the kids put things in “Love It or Lose it” decluttering piles! We will be able to repaint the rooms once they are tidy!
One of my sons wardrobes which I use for storage needs sorting through, once I have done this it will create some space for my craft stuff.
have plans
my utility room adjacent to the kitchen is a dumping ground .. but, we need it all .. just good organisation and storage shelves are needed x
One advice for decluttering is to be absolutely ruthless when throwing out clothes – NO, you will never fit into these jeans from 1999 again!
I’ve read the Kon Mari book and joined a few decluttering Facebook groups for encouragement, now I just have to start. I’m pregnant and baby is due May 31st so need to get a move on!
i always mean to start but get distracted
Every so often i have a clear out and if i haven’t used something for over a year then i consider getting rid of it whether by giving it to family or a friend or donating them
I have been building cupboards and shelves for storage and display. Did need to recycle some things as well though.
I’ve been ruthless, and thrown out bits that have fallen apart. Some items have gone to charity, and the rest in storage boxes.
I have invested in those vacuum or roll out the air plastic bags. They are excellent.
Clearing out any unwanted toys and clothes for charity shops
I need to declutter soon and I will have to be ruthless this time as I usually keep most of it
doing a little bit each day 🙂
I’m decluttering one drawer at a time
We have been selling things on ebay to declutter. We are hoping to move this year so this voucher would come in very handy. Thank you for this fab giveaway xx
I always have a declutter before I start my spring cleaning so I have less to move when I clean skirting boards etc..I have already started and have given lots to charity, it is very time consuming but rewarding to see it all done x
I’m inundated with clutter and really don’t know where to start, I sometimes think it would be easier just to throw everything away and start again! I’m always donating to charity or selling but then I have a bad habit of buying more!
I like to have a big clear out every now and then, do a car boot.. and get rid of things that no one uses/wants anymore.. 😀
I am surrounded by clutter! I did have a shredding session at the weekend, but I need to part company with a lot of clothing ????
ive been trying very hard to break my hoarding habbit
I’m going to make a start on my daughters room, she has so much stuff and not a lot of space
We need to sort our hall out its becoming a dumping ground
We are in the process of boarding out our loft and fitting lights so we can use it as storage – as long as it is not habitable ( ie make into a bedroom / have power outlets ) you dont need to have it fire checked so not as expensive as we first thought and will give another 24 sq foot of storage – cant wait to declutter stuff up there
Massive decluttering plans – we are moving and downsizing this year so lots of work ahead :-\
Get Three Boxes To Clear Donate Rubbish Sell
We’ve been putting stuff on Ebay or giving things away to charity shops! We have a good declutter every couple of months or so.
We try to keep our house free of clutter. I put aside things we no longer need and then advertise them on Freecycle or give them to charity.
Sell unused stuff on eBay or at a car boot sale, or give them away to a charity.
I always have several charity bags and when a room looks cluttered it gets cleared which normally happens every few months xxxxxxx
sell all unused items on ebay for a bit of extra cash
I’ve been ruthlessly throwing away or donating everything that I haven’t used in six months or more.
I have been having a big sort out and donating all my unwanted stuff to charity 🙂
We’ve had to have some work done in our bedroom so rather than just move everything out and back in again we have spent the last week getting rid of everything we don’t use so we have less to move
Do a room at a time, a space or corner at a time if it’s too daunting all at once. Give away stuff you haven’t used to charities but beware of kerbside van drops as there are fake charity vans or non-charity vans picking them up and also the charity doesn’t always get all the money. Take it to the shop instead yourself when you have time.
I bought some vacuum bags recently, and spent a fun hour or so getting everything in them. 🙂
We’re in the process of moving around the bedrooms, so lots of decluttering going on here x
