For the past few years, we’ve been going to see Disney on Ice each Christmas, and this year it was Disney on Ice Worlds of Enchantment at the O2. We had been really looking forward to the show, and it did not disappoint.
Disney on Ice Worlds of Enchantment opens with a section inspired by Toy Story 3. This is very cleverly done and tells the full story of the movie really well in a condensed time frame, with some brilliant dancing especially from the toy soldiers and Barbie and Ken – who do a very impressive performance to “dreamweaver.” I was also really pleased to see the character of Lotso appearing in this, as he is a favourite of ours – although he is a baddy, he is so cute we can’t help having a soft spot for this character. As you can see, he looks exactly the same in Disney on Ice as he does in the movie!
After the Toy Story section is completed, the hosts of the show Mickey and Minnie, move things on to one of the older classic Disney movies – The Little Mermaid. This was one of my favourites as a child so it was great to see, and nice that an old one has been included alongside the other modern favourites in the show.
This colourful section includes plenty of sea life alongside Ariel, Prince Eric, Sebastian the crab, Ursula and of course Flounder! Our favourite song from this section was “Part of your World”, where bubbles rain down over the stage, but of course, Under the Sea is always a huge hit too!
This Worlds of Enchantment Disney on Ice show focuses on more of the Pixar movies, as well as the classic Disney. Like the first half, the second half of the show was opened with a Disney Pixar inspired section. The Cars inspired section features real cars zooming around over the ice including our favourites Mater and Lightning McQueen. The started the second half of the show with a bang and really got my boys excited.
I have no idea how they do the cars skating on ice, but however it’s done it works brilliantly and adds some great variety to the show. With the inclusion of the Cars and Toy Story section, Worlds of Enchantment is a really well balanced Disney on Ice show that will appeal very well to both boys and girls (if your boys are not so enthralled by the Disney Princess… mine did enjoy those sections too though!)
After Cars was the section everyone had really been waiting for (judging by the amount of children dressed up as the characters!) – Frozen! Worlds of Enchantment is the first Disney on Ice show that has included Frozen, and of course the movie is so popular and beloved in many households, so this was definitely a welcome inclusion.
The Frozen section was really well put together, with magical results. The section opened with the coronation and “For the First Time in Forever” before Ana and Hans perform “Love is an Open Door.” The audience really got into this section right from the start, with so many children around us singing along to the songs.
The highlight of the Frozen section was definitely Elsa’s performance of “Let it Go” which saw fireworks shooting out at the side of the ice, and her own ice castle being set up in the centre of the ice with the help of some icy blue material. Like in the movie, Elsa’s costume transforms during this song too. It really is a must-see for any Frozen fans, who will absolutely love it. I thought my boys would choose the Cars section as their favourite, but actually they said that Frozen was their favourite part and they really enjoyed Elsa’s performance.
The Frozen section also includes an appearance from Olaf, who sings his song “In Summer” and the full story is told right up until the end when an act of true love from Anna thaws Elsa’s frozen heart.
The whole show of Worlds of Enchantment was great, and kept my kids gripped throughout. My eldest (7) gave the first half a rating of 9.5 out of ten, and the second half 9.8 out of ten – which I can agree with.
I would recommend the show for kids of any age. We first starting taking ours to Disney on Ice shows when our youngest was about 1 and even at that young age he enjoyed the shows. It’s a great outing for the whole family, and we can’t wait to see what else Disney on Ice come up with next year!
