A couple of weeks ago, we went along to London Zoo for the EE Robin tablet launch. The EE Robin is the first kids tablet with 4G, making it easy for kids to access their favourite content on the go. The tablet comes with over 40 selected apps pre-loaded, including Hopster which gives them access to lots of their favourite TV shows.

My boys were all impressed with the Robin tablet, and have been playing with ours loads since we got it. They really like how easy it is to use, and that although it’s a kids tablet with content pre-loaded its simple to add on their own favourite games too and they are not limited in that as we can add any game from the Google play store. You can approve these newly downloaded games to the kids profiles, and then they can’t add any extras without parent’s permission, which gives a good balance between protecting the kids from unknown content, but still letting them have variety in the games they want to play.

The boys also love that with the 4G, they can watch video content anywhere, from Hopster or YouTube. This comes in really handy while travelling, as we’re not always able to connect to wifi and sometimes public wifi connections are so slow that it becomes frustrating to try and use them!

The EE Robin is a 7 inch tablet on the  Android 5.1 operating system and comes with a protective bumper case, so it’s more able to withstand wear and tear and regular use from the kids. The kids interface is powered by Kurio, which we hadn’t tried before but it is really simple and child friendly.

The Robin has a quad-core processor, 1GB RAM, and 8GB internal memory – with additional storage space (up to 32GB) available via a Micro SD card slot. I would recommend getting the additional memory card to expand the tablet, as we are planning to get since the 8GB does fill up quite quickly otherwise, and the more space your child has the more use they can get out of the tablet. The Robin also has a 2MP rear-facing camera.

The Robin will be available on monthly contracts starting at £13 per month. It will be free for existing customers or £29 for non-EE pay monthly customers. A £15pm contract over 24 months will come with 10GB of monthly data, and 2 years free access to Hopster.

The EE Robin is also available to buy on Pay-As-You-Go for £129, if you don’t want to tie yourself in, and this comes with 3 months free access to Hopster. Damage cover is also available for £4 per month and protects against cracks, smashes and spills with a next day replacement service.

  1. Thought about getting a tablet for my Grandson, just not sure about paying a monthly fee although this does seem like a very good system.
