Fit to Dance with Disney on Ice

Disney have created a new “Fit to Dance” programme that can be used at home or in schools to encourage children to keep active and to combine movement with story telling.

We went along to Pineapple Studios to find out more about Fit to Dance and the boys worked together with some of the dancers from Disney on Ice Worlds of Enchantment (which we can’t wait to see later this month!) to make up their own dance routine inspired by Toy Story.

Before making up their dance, they brainstormed together about the plot of their story and decided on characters and a simple idea for their story, then they were able to use these as inspiration for the movements and actions to make up their dance sequence.

If you need quick inspiration for your stories, you can grab plenty of ideas on the families section of the Fit to Dance site and use those!

You can also get ideas for dance moves to go with elements of your stories, or of course make up your own!

My boys really enjoyed their Disney on Ice Fit to Dance session. They had said previously that they weren’t sure if they were any good at dancing, so they were really happy to find that this type of dancing could be something more creative, where you just tell a story via dance and don’t have to worry about following a strict routine. It appealed to them a lot more, and will suit all skill levels of dancing. It’s a fun way for them to combine their imaginations and their favourite characters and stories with being active, which is always great!

After making up their story and dance, the kids got their props and face paint on, ready to perform to us, and they did a great job!
