The Legend of Zelda Tri Force Heroes is a fun fantasy game that can be played in 3 ways. The game involves three characters working together to complete the missions and work through the game together.

You can either play online in multiplayer, play with two friends locally via wifi (Who each their own Nintendo 3DS) or play alone in single player by switching between the heroes. This is the first Nintendo 3DS game we’ve tried that’s heavily designed for multi player, and was my kids first introduction to Zelda.

The Legend of Zelda Tri Force Heroes

This Zelda game feels a little more advanced than some of the other Nintendo 3DS games we often play. It is rated Pegi 7 although some sites had it listed as a 12. My 7 year old does find it more challenging than some of our other games, but I haven’t come across any content in the game that would be inappropriate for him. There is the option to connect to strangers online as part of the game play, but communication is limited to pictures from the game which are sent to convey emotions.

The three players in this game are all different coloured versions of the main character, Link, and the story is set in a world called Hytopia which is obsessed with fashion. As you go through the game you can collect items that are needed to make certain types of clothing, which my kids were interested in doing. There are multiple areas to explore, like Woodlands, as well as completing dungeon missions in the Draplands.

We have mostly been playing in single player so far, but once my younger two boys get a bit bigger and more able to play the game properly I think there will be a lot more fun to be had with this by all three playing together via local multiplayer, and if they manage to complete this game together there is a whole back catalogue of 18 other Zelda games from Nintendo that we are yet to explore.

I would recommend this game for children of at least 7, probably slightly older to get the most out of it. If you have an older child who’s looking for games to explore multiplayer and wants to try a new challenge, this could be a good option for them.

This game is available on Nintendo 3DS. Click here to see and buy on Amazon for around 28.99, you can also get it as a digital download in the Nintendo e-store
