I like the idea of fitness trackers, but had never tried one before so I was keen to try out the Kiqplan Slim and Trim plan along with the Fitbug Orb tracker. Kiqplan offers a 12 week programme via an app on your phone, and records information on your activity, sleep via the tracker, along with information on your food intake which you input manually each day. It compliments this with an exercise programme and healthy recipes to give you ideas.
Kiqplan has been tailor made by renowned personal trainers, nutritionists, dieticians and qualified fitness experts who have designed a personalised fitness app to work in tandem with most smart phones and leading fitness-trackers, including Fitbug, Jawbone, Fitbit, Misfit, Nike+, iHealth and more.
Kiqplan differs from other fitness apps on the market by using the real data it receives daily via wearable trackers, and turning it into a personal and understandable 12-week training programmes that works with you every step of the way. This data is tracked via bluetooth in your phone. You don’t need to leave your blue tooth switched on the whole time, you can let it collect via the Fitbug and then just switch on Blue tooth temporarily send it across at different points through the day.
The plan includes “how-to” workout videos, nutritional advice, healthy recipes, sleep and step targets, plus much more. It’s literally a personal trainer in your pocket!
There’s four plans currently available for women; Healthy Baby Bump, Goodbye Baby Bump, Slim & Trim and Bikini Hot plus two for dad in the form of Beer Belly Blaster and Sun’s Out Guns Out.
I chose the Slim and Trim plan which is a weight loss plan designed for women who are either new to exercise or returning after a break.
The programme moves through 3 phases, starting with a full body workout that targets large muscle groups in order to tone the whole body and maximise calorie burn during the workout. The second phase targets muscles with a higher intensity and volume, and requires slightly heavier weights to enable users to reap the benefits of increasing muscle tone to burn calories while resting. The final phase is a high intensity circuit-based workout, created to increase fitness levels, stamina, and provide all-over toning, with a particular emphasis on the legs, bum and tum.
I have found it really helpful to use the fitness tracker, and the Kiqplan app. The data collection seems to be mostly reliable, and it’s handy to be able to look back at your day and see where you’ve done well or where you may have gone wrong, and having the exercise plan all in one place along with your daily progress is really handy. I would prefer if the fitbug was in a more neutral colour like black, so as not to draw too much attention to it – although it does look like a watch anyway when worn on the wrist, and you can pop out the tracker from the watch band and wear it around your neck if preferred.
I have been using the app for about 6 weeks now so I’m half way through the 12 week plan and will hopefully continue to use it in the future.
