A great way to revive old favourites from your children’s toy box is to mix and match and bring toys together in new combinations. We love coming up with creative new ways to play together and since my boys all enjoy designing and constructing, we got the idea of expanding their Hexbugs play by bringing in play dough for them to build their own mazes.
This combination of classic preschool toy (playdough) with modern gadgety toy (Hexbug) appealed really well to all three of my boys (from 3 to almost 7) which is always a win!
We went along to Toys R Us (my kids’ favourite shop ever!) to pick up some extra Hexbugs to use in our activity. For your playdough mazes any kind of Hexbug Nano will work best, and the boys got a couple of new Hexbug Nano V2s to add to one we had already – so now they can race each other
The great thing about this type of activity is that the designs are only limited by your imagination, so kids can come back to it another day and set everything up completely differently to keep it fresh and fun.
If you haven’t tried Hexbugs before, they are small robotic creatures that come in all different colours and designs. When you flick the on switch on the bottom they are able to move and will walk about following the paths that you set out for them. They can go pretty fast!
