Our family often eats Belvita breakfast biscuits. When you’re in a rush in the morning they are so handy to grab. But on the weekends when we have a little more time, I thought it would be fun to use them for a really simple breakfast recipe that the children could put together themselves.

My boys all love to help with preparing food and feel proud of what they make, especially my eldest Z who’s 6 who really enjoys the responsibility of helping out in the kitchen.

The great thing about this Belvita breakfast yoghurt parfait recipe is that the children don’t need much help at all, so their able to feel that their breakfast is truly their own creation.

Belvita breakfast yoghurt parfait recipe that's so easy for kids to make themselves as a healthy breakfastWe headed to Tesco to pick up a few more packets of Belvita ready for the boys to make their breakfasts in the morning, and chose a couple of different varieties so that they could pick which one they wanted. No surprise they went for the cocoa flavour – they love anything chocolate! I made mine with the Belvita Crunchy and really enjoyed the added texture that came with that variety.

We also picked up a packet of the choco-hazelnut tops to try.

ingredients for breakfast yoghurt parfairFirst, we crushed up our Belvita breakfast biscuits by placing them into a ziplock bag and using a rolling pin.

crushing belvita in a zip lock bagThen place a layer of this crushed biscuit into the bottom of a glass, and top with a layer of yoghurt, and a layer of chopped fruit. Then continue the layering process until the glass is full and you’re happy with the result.

putting yoghurt into a cupWe used plain natural yoghurt, but if your children want the taste to be a little sweeter you could mix in honey to the yoghurt before layering.

T prefers banana so he made his dish with only banana, and strawberries were popular with the other boys. Satsuma pieces work well on the top of the glass, and apple pieces and blueberries or raspberries are also good options to try.

It was fun to see how everyone’s came out different – but all equally yummy!
