Most kids love to listen to music, mine included, and it’s great to try lots of different styles and songs for the different seasons and occasions. Although I use Spotify for myself, I had never thought to use it to find and organise music for the kids until I heard about the new “My Songs” free app for kids. The My Songs app works within Spotify and helps you easily access a library of kid-approved family friendly songs for your children.

Where to find good quality free music for kids - great recommendations!

This means that kids can have access to their music whenever you have your phone or your laptop with you, and you wouldn’t have to bring CDs around with you. I do sometimes access music on Youtube for the children but I find that you can’t always be sure of the quality, and it is not as convenient as using an app like My Songs on Spotify.

To get the app, just open up Spotify as you would normally, and then go to apps from the left hand menu. There is currently no search function within the apps but just scroll down until you see this My Songs logo (currently around 100 when I downloaded) and then you can add the app easily from there. It will then always be accessible in your side bar within Spotify.

It will look like this:

Once you have got the app, you can explore many categories of music inside:

  • Party
  • Playtime
  • Rhymes
  • Action
  • Football
  • Learning
  • Stories
  • TV Themes
  • Bedtime
  • Pop
  • Holiday
  • Halloween
  • Christmas
  • Movies
  • Show songs
  • Classics

You will find something for every mood. There are plenty of songs to help support learning, for example if you want to work on times tables through music or help children to sing their ABCs. Or if you are in the mood for a bit of fun then the movie soundtracks are great for the whole family with songs like Let it Go or Pharrell Williams Happy which is in Despicable Me 2

This app is so handy to have. Rather than searching for what you need, it’s all there at your finger tips! And since it’s free, that’s even better!

Will you be giving it a try? Let me know what you think.
