Garden Makeover with the Outspiration app

Now that Summer is approaching we have been starting to spend more time outside. I’m thinking about getting our garden ready to host family and friends for barbecues. Although the garden has lots of fun play spaces for the kids, some areas are still in need of a bit of TLC.

I have been using the new Outspiration app from AkzoNobel to help me plan some improvements to the garden.

The app has the following features:

Visualiser: Unique software that allows you to visualise the colour of your furniture or walls, so you can try colours before you even lift a brush. This allows you to take a picture of the area that you want to make over, such as your fence or shed and then really easily visualise the finished result. I experimented with a few colours before settling on the Forget-Me-Not blue shade from the Cuprinol range that we bought in the end.

Weather: Weather forecasts personalised to your area to help you plan your project around the ideal weather conditions. We had been planning to paint over the Easter weekend but unfortunately the weather was not on our side. Luckily the Outspiration app was there to help us adjust our plans accordingly.

To celebrate the launch of the app AkzoNobel is giving away a beautiful barbecue and a personal hamper worth £100 to help you get outdoors and begin your Outspiration journey. All you need to do is download the app and enter your details in the WIN section of the app. The competition is running from 28th April for 2 weeks, so make sure you don’t miss it!

After using the Outspiration app to plan our garden improvements, we decided to make over our shed by adding a splash of colour. We went for a paint from the Culprinol Garden Shades range, in Forget-Me-Not blue.

Our shed was really looking the worse for wear. It’s an old and tired shed which has been here since we bought the house.

Now with it’s new colour thanks to Culprinol and the Outspiration app, it looks so much more vibrant and really cheers up the garden.

What do you think? Blue wood reminds me of the seaside. It’s quite a bold colour but I think we made a good choice with it.

I am really looking forward to entertaining in the garden throughout the summer! Are you feeling ‘outspired’ to get out in your garden and get making some improvements?

  1. That looks an excellent app – I love your shed but would never be brave enough to paint wood a bright “different” colour – but with that app you can get a feel for the end result first!

  2. I love this colour. We are in the process of a radical garden overhaul. OH has just bought a greenhouse and wants a shed. I have said he can have one if he paints it a pretty colour so I think we may well be looking at the Cuprinol range to decide on one.

  3. I had heard about this app, so I was really intrigued to see your review of it! The colour “tester” for the fence panel is very clever and I LOVE what you have done to the shed – fantastic!

  4. This does look such a brilliant app. No need to try something and find out after hours of painting that it doesn’t actually ‘go’.

  5. That blue is an amazing colour and the app looks like a great idea – We’re always putting off doing jobs outdoors as the weather looks iffy! x

  6. The colour checker app is a great idea. When we added colour to our shed we just crossed our fingers and hoped it would be ok. This would’ve been so much easier!

  7. I’ve seen so many great ways this app has been used this week – I’ll have to see if I can download it for my Windows phone – alas our app choices aren’t anywhere near as a good as iPhone and androids but fingers crossed!

  8. I love the Seagrass colour. I have real trouble visualising colours and especially in the garden so this app would really help me to be braver about colour.

  9. I like it! We painted the shed in our previous house a sky blue shade and it really cheered up the garden on rainy days and made a beautiful contrast to all the brightly colored flowers I planted.
