This year marks the 10th anniversary of the classic book “How to Catch a Star” by Oliver Jeffers. To celebrate , we were sent a special 10th anniversary box with a copy of the book for ourselves, one to give away to one of you, and a few little extras.

10th anniversary of how to catch a star

I don’t know how come, but we had never read this book before! It is really lovely though, so I’m glad we had the chance to be introduced to it. All the boys really enjoyed the story and I love the beautiful soft illustration style.

The story was perfect for Mr T and Mr R who are 4 years old and 2.5. They loved spotting all the stars, and putting stars of their own on the pages while we read the story.

The story tells of a little boy who loves the stars and really wants one to keep for his very own, so he sets about thinking of all the ways he could try to catch one from the sky.

He even tries to catch the star’s reflections from the water, but that won’t work either. It’s a very sweet book about how much this little boy tries, and the boys were always interested to see what he was going to try next!

We have been doing lots of activities around the book to extend our discussion on the story, so look out for my post soon showing these.

You can also download your free printable activity sheets here, to enjoy alongside the book.

To win your own 10th anniversary copy of the book, enter via the Rafflecopter below. I will leave this open Worldwide so that everyone can be included.

  2. We absolutely love Oliver Jeffers and we are huge fans of Lost and Found (there is also an animated movie of this tale which is just beautiful to watch). How to Catch a Star is classic Jeffers and the end can’t fail to bring a smile to your face. Can’t wait to see your activities. Thank you so much for linking up with #kidsbookaweek

  3. We absolutely adore Oliver Jeffers – a lot of my favourite books are Oliver Jeffers books and ‘The Heart and the Bottle’ is one of my all time faves. Interestingly enough – this one is one of the few Oliver Jeffers books that I don’t have on my bookshelves.

  6. Neither I nor the kid here knows about the author since we live in Finland, we mostly read Finnish books. Anyway, it’d be a good start for my kid in English study. Thanks for the giveaway, such a lovely book.

  9. We have a copy of How to Catch a Star but it would be lovely to have the anniversary adition to save. I have books that were put aside for me as a child. They’re very special to me and remind me of bedtimes reading with my mum.
