Two new titles from The Wonderful World of Simon Abbott have been released today – “Planes, Trains and Cars” and “Animals Everywhere.”
The boys were lucky enough to be a sent a copy of each from the Publisher so we have been able to enjoy the books already. Both books, like all books in the Wonderful World of Simon Abbott series, are packed full of information and bright engaging pictures.
If your child is always inquisitive and eager to learn they can pick up lots of facts from these books to help build their general knowledge. Mr Z is always interested in learning facts, especially things with numbers and figures. At around 5 or 6 years+ these books are ideal for this, and they are not too babyish so would be suitable throughout all of the primary school years.
Non fiction books are just as important as fiction, to help develop a love of learning and a child’s ability to read and pick up information themselves rather than waiting to be told everything. I love it when Mr Z comes and tells me a fact that I didn’t even know myself!
Every page has quite a lot of text on it, but as its mixed in with pictures it doesn’t feel too dense and children can dip in to read as much or as little as they like on that particular day. I think this appeals to some children more than just reading a book from cover to cover.
Although Mr R and Mr T are a little young for the books and can’t yet read, they still loved looking at the pictures in these books too – especially the Planes, Trains and Cars.
The books have so many pictures in them, with lots of variety and detail within the theme, that it’s great for language development too. As the pictures captured the younger boys attention I was able to sit with them and point at the pictures and talk together in simple language about what we can see. The pages are paper, but they are quite thick and the cover is hardback so the books are pretty durable.
We did have the Space book from the Simon Abbott series already, and it’s a lovely series to collect. I think it will last all of the boys really well throughout their primary school days.
