The boys have had some very cool products through to review this week – Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys! I quite liked turtles myself as a kid. They have definitely stood the test of time! We were sent a Powersound FX Turtles Figure & Turtles Ninja Combat Gear Set, both of which are recommended for age 4+
The product that grabbed their attention first was the ninja combat gear set. There are 4 available, for every turtle and ours is for Raphael.
You can see all the 4 sets here. Each of them is slightly different in the types of ninja weapons contained.
The Raphael set includes two “complete sais” ninja weapons, along with the signature bandana. This is quite a simple toy but it really appealed to my boys and they are enjoying it a lot. Like most children they have a lot of energy to use up so this set is ideal for them to play with while running around the house and using up that energy! It helps them to bring more imaginative play into their running games.
Mr T (4) looks so cute dressed up with his ninja combat gear! He did need some help to tie the bandana and position it properly for his eyes, so while just playing throughout the day they have been playing with the weapons more. The bandana would be perfect if I have to send him to a party or to school in fancy dress though, as it does make the costume look immediately recognisable as a ninja turtle!
I can use this set to help him with his gross motor skills too. If your child has any exercises they need to do (like Mr T has some core strengthening to do for physio, and general coordination exercises too), giving them some ninja weapons to hold and telling them that these are ninja moves does tend to increase their level of interest and motivation!
Next up is the Powersound FX Turtles Figure. Again we have Raphael and the figure is available in all four turtle variants which you can see here, and also a Shredder figure.
The boys are really enjoying the Powersound FX turtle figure. It keeps their attention longer than any other action figures we have had, because there is more to it. All of the limbs can be moved separately to pose Raphael and make him fight, and this movement of limbs causes different sound effects. When you raise the arm for example, it might say “hiiiii..” and when it goes down, it finishes the sound with “..ya!” so rather than being just random sound effects they blend in so much better with the actions the child is doing with the figure. This is down to a patented wire coil activation system in the arms. Some of the other phrases it has are “we’re ninja turtles” “you’re going down” “this means war”. They are all generally connected to ninja combat.
The figure also has removable weapons. These are 2 complete sais for Raphael, the same as in the role play ninja combat pack. Mr T really liked being able to take them in and out of the turtles hands, and store them carefully in the back of his shell. I also really like this as it means they are less likely to get lost!
Each figure is 5.5 inches tall which is a perfect size, not too big and not too small.
These are the first TMNT toys my boys have had, and I’m really pleased with how much play value they are offering so far. They do keep returning to the toys and are not getting bored with them. The quality of the toys is good, they are all strong and well made and seem able to handle rough play from boisterous children which is really reassuring to me. There’s nothing more disappointing than having a toy which is flimsy and quickly breaks!
I would definitely recommend the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles toys. They are great for this age group and will be fun whether they are already familiar with Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or not.

That looks like so much fun!! I used to love TMNT when I was growing up! x
These look good fun, I loved watching turtles when I was younger.
Turtle Power!!! Do they still say that? The toys look really sturdy and I can see they were fun.
I’m not sure how I feel about those weapons to be honest, but the Turtles themselves look great. My nephew loved them when he was little.
They look great. Used to love TMNT!
Your boys look chuffed to bits with these! Can’t believe that the Ninja Turtles (along with many other children’s toys) have gone full circle, I remember them first time 🙂
Not liking the weapons as my boys would probably take an eye out with them lol, but that’s just us!! The figures look fun 🙂
It looks like your boys were having lots of fun. Mine never got in to the turtles
This takes me back to my brothers toys when I was growing up!
Those eye masks are so cool! My boys would love this 🙂
Oh I LOVED teenage mutant ninja turtles as a kid! F would love the action figure, he has a superman that has moveable parts and does keep his attention for ages! x
I always liked Ninja Turtles… yes I know I am not a boy but there is something about them which appeals to me big time – maybe because they are green (?)… who knows …
They look like cool toys 🙂 bizarrely my boys aren’t into TMNT (probably good because of the weapons!) but I used to love them 😀 x
Aw looks like he loved his TMNT toys x x
I loved turtles as a kid!
Donatello was my favorite – he was really smooth…..
I used to have the annual and the pencil case!
My son has one of those toys 🙂 the hiiiiiiyaaaaaaa can go on for a while but he does love it!
Yes, if they leave the arms up it goes on forever!!!!
Gosh I remember my brother loving Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. POD would love this I’m sure – she thoroughly enjoys playing with “peoples” (although not actually a people/person!)
My almost three year old son would LOVE all this – he loves Ninja Turtles. I was never really into it as a child, but it’s kind of nostalgic watching it with him, even though it looks different.
These look great, Bud is a big TMNT fan so I know he would love them. I love Mr R’s expression in the background of the photo, he looks like he really wants to have a go!
yes, Mr R also loves the turtles toy!
I am not a fan of the TMNT, but am sure J will love them when he is a little bit older.
My brother loved the turtles, so I’m quite disappointed my boys aren’t really bothered with the TV show – I do know they’d love these though! 🙂
Isaac adores TMNT and was so excited when he got these – even Kian had a go
My 2 would love playing with the turtles, even though they don’t watch the show yet.
