Spookley Pumpkin RGB

Spookley the Square Pumpkin is a new DVD from Abbey Media – Perfectly timed for Halloween! It is a movie which is suitable for younger children, at only 45 minutes long. This is great for those around 2 or 3 years old who can’t easily sit through a full lengthed children’s movie.

Spookley the Square Pumpkin is based on a Best Selling children’s book – “The Legend of Spookley the Square Pumpkin” by Joe Troiano. I don’t know how come I had never heard of this book, but it does sound like that would be a great one for Halloween too.

The story of Spookley is all about how he, as a square pumpkin, does not fit into what is expected in the Pumpkin Patch. Some of the other round pumpkins bully him, calling him a weed and being unkind to him. Spookley and his square shape eventually save the day, and he makes some great friends along the way. This is a positive message for children, as everyone has something that makes them a bit different and its important to learn that this is not a good reason to be unkind of not accept others, and that sometimes differences could end up being really useful!

Mr R watched this DVD, and at just turned 2 he did still find it hard to concentrate on the whole movie but he enjoyed the songs (there are 5 as part of the movie) and this dvd will be perfect nearer to halloween. I am not really a fan of anything gross or overly scary at Halloween so this kind of cute story which still has a halloween feel is much better for my children. They do get scared easily but this is absolutely fine for them!

Together with some halloween crafts like carving a pumpkin, and some halloween sweets, this will make a perfect special halloween night in for the children.

  1. My four kids all go to the same Primary school and the past few years the school has always held a Halloween disco for the kids to attend. So we will probably go there as well as trick or treating around known neighbours and family. I don’t allow my children to go out trick or treating on their own and I am not keen on disturbing people we don’t know.

  2. We have a little party at home every year, For me, the fun is in the decorating and having a little walk around the neighbourhood to see what others have done. There’s a particular road where everybody tries to outdo each other and last year one had a light show on the front of the house 🙂

  6. A party would be nice, probably with the neighbours. As they have young children also, and we have partied together the last few years. Need to check out availability, as some may have other commitments. Little one looking forward to dressing up as Cookie Monster.
