I really hate it when the house is in a mess, but lately I have noticed more and more clutter starting to accumulate everywhere so I am thinking of taking a weekend just to totally declutter it all.

With the children back at school for giving me more free hours in the day, It is definitely time to think about decluttering the home and getting organised. Once it’s achieved, I always feel my mood instantly elevate, so today I will share a few tips on easy ways to declutter your home and boost your mood.

Reduce Clutter Ruthlessly

Decluttering your home is not just about creating more space; it’s also about improving your mental well-being. One effective approach to tackle the clutter in your home is by considering temporary dumpster rentals. These rentals offer a convenient and stress-free solution to dispose of large quantities of unwanted items, ranging from old furniture to accumulated junk.

Sometimes, it pays to be ruthless. If you feel overwhelmed by the amount of things around you, it’s time to loose the sentimental side and just de-clutter. Your house will feel much fresher and clearer afterwards.

When you have a lot to declutter or are making big changes to the home such as removing walls or restricting, then Skip hire is a must to make the process easier and clear all the resulting rubbish out of the way.

The skips don’t need to be huge ones, small skips are perfect for domestic use.

Organising Children’s Toys

Children’s toys are one of the areas which quickly build up the most clutter in our home. With four children, we accumulate a lot of toys and having a strong organisation system is a must.

It’s also vital to regularly go through the toys and games to make sure that everything being stored is still being used and age appropriate. If not – then off to the charity shop they go!

That way, the kids can see exactly what they have, what they want to play with, and manage their belongings more effectively.

Clearing out Clothes

The children’s clothes are another area which needs sorting out regularly, as they keep outgrowing things! It also helps to go through and put away all the summer clothes now that Autumn seems to have arrived, and so on through the seasons.

If you have a lot of clothes to clear out in good condition it can be worth doing a car boot sale or selling a lot of your unwanted things on ebay to help make some extra money for buying the next size up.

It is also really worthwhile to sell any bigger items that you no longer use, to make some extra money while clearing out. It is quite easy to sell old consoles online or at stores like CEX.

De-clutter to-do list

  • Sort out all the toys, get rid of any extra boxes or move them out of the way for example upstairs.
  • Have more toys on display so the children can easily see which ones to take without pouring everything on the floor
  • Organise book cases for the children’s playroom or bedroom, and clear out books they have outgrown. Pass to charity shops or family friends.
  • Clearly label all toy boxes. This can be done visually for young children with photos of the contents, attached the outside of each box as well as written labels
  • Organise children’s clothes. Seasonal clothes to put away and clothes that are outgrown to go to the charity shop.
  • Sort out and sell any old consoles, phones and clear out any old dvds or games to make space.

I don’t always enjoy decluttering as it can be time consuming but the end results are always worth it! Keep looking at all the gorgeous rooms on Pinterest for motivation!!

  1. I hate having clutter everywhere but having two children (and a husband!) unfortunately I always seem to be moving stuff from one place to another. My tip is to find a big cupboard to hide it all in! :p

  2. I just hate clutter in my home and one thing I realised that when I am single then there comes no problem in organising things in my home but after getting married I think it too unorganised. I think I also have to make to-do list. Dear…thanks for this inspiration and now I am just waiting to see my home organised.

  3. We’re all grown and our house is still full of clutter. You sound so organised, got it sorted. Will have to post a pic of the before and after.

  4. Why do we always find our houses end up with too much clutter? I wish I was more organised and didn’t let it get in a mess, but guess it’ll never be. You do though sound very organised and have an action plan. Hopefully I find what I’ve read in your post inspiring and helps me to make a start here too. Thanks.

  5. I don’t like having too much clutter around the house either, but I am a bit of a hoarder as well! I use self storage for the items I know I will need but not necessarily at the time, but you have definitely inspired me to have a sort out, Pintrest is definitely one to keep an eye on!
